I was in the Peaks on Monday and, in glorious weather, did the classic walk from Hope up to Lose Hill, along the ridge to Mam Tor and down to Edale. It’s a walk you can do in just over two hours if you’re keen; three to four hours if you want to linger on the tops. The route offers plenty of rewards and a sense of achievement without being alarmingly challenging. The views of the Hope and Edale valleys, Kinder Scout and the Derbyshire/Yorkshire borderlands are superb (provided you don’t focus too much on the cement works at Hope) and the highlight is Mam Tor, the “shivering mountain.” Pictures from Geograph, map from the OS. The railway line shown on the map is the main Sheffield to Manchester route with stations at Hope and Edale (which means you can park at one, walk to the other and take the train back to your car).
