As you may know, my childhood pictures I had, were destroyed by the ex wife, but Peter Godfrey, sent me a photo he had of me when I was 10 years old and the mascot for Newton Spurs. I have now been given a second picture someone had, not sure how old I am in this one. Merse will know one person in this photo and Petef should know who the bridegroom is, while Peter Godfrey should know at at least four people in this photo. PS I'm the one in the short trousers

................a little bit more on Terry Way. The guy commanded so much respect, both as a player and a manager. I've often read in articles "Who was the loudest manager you've played under?" Well Terry would surely be the quietest. As a player he was full of good advice but would impart it during a quiet moment - man to man. As a manager, he was much the same; he would wait for a break in play and if you saw him beckon you knew it was time to run over to him for his input. In training he spent a lot of time letting the trainer get on with the fitness training whilst he paid individual attention to players.................a minute with Terry was worth an hour with many others. A top, top man and one who's knowledge should have been put to a far higher standard of football than that which he spent most of his time.

You are correct merse, the little girl holding my hand is Terry's first child, my cousin who was named Mary, scary but true she is married to my ex wifes brother.
The second lady in from the right at the back, holding a child is Terry's wife and their second child Tina, we later had a son who was named Christopher.
The groom is my brother in law Barry, but was so much better known and still called to this day shadrack as he was the front man for a well known band at that time Shadrack And The Vampires. They played at the wedding, the reception was held in a place who's name I have forgotten, but sure you will know, it was between the old bus station and the new fire station, on the left and up on the hill, looking down on the community center.
I believe Petef played with the group a few years ago as it reformed to do a few gigs.

I recognise Terry's wife and remember Shadrack! The club you refer to was the Naval Club...................note the spelling NOT the navel club - although I've seen a stripper set light to the Chrissy decs there one night. Laugh? we pissed ourselves as she never batted an eyelid even though some guy put the fire extinguisher on it!

Hi Pete, its a great old photo for sure, Merse knows more about what clubs Terry played for and I'm sure he will tell us on this thread. On another note, did young Richard join the forum yesterday?

Hi Pete, its a great old photo for sure, Merse knows more about what clubs Terry played for and I'm sure he will tell us on this thread. Earlier in this thread I made mention of Terry's manner as a football manager and I played under him at Liverton United. Terry's heyday as a player however was at Newton Spurs where he made his way into the First team as a fourteen year old and never looked back. Hew played representative football for Devon and played for a variety of clubs including a very good Kingsteignton Athletic who won the Herald Cup and Devon Senior Cup in the sixties. I can also recall him playing for Bovey Tracey, Bishopsteignton, another very good side at Newton 66 where United director Brian Palk was a good defender, and I think too Newton Rangers when they set up as a breakaway from Newton Spurs in the sixties and played at Bakers Park following some big bust up at the Rec. It's possible too, he also played for Dawlish in the Exeter & East Devon League but I'm not so sure on that one. Like his great contemporary Alan Garrett, he seemed to play on forever; certainly well into his fifties and was a player in the "George Eastham" manner in that he made and let the ball do the work for him even though in his youth he possessed a fair turn of speed and a devastating cross from the wing. A proper tradesman of a footballer and one of the old school, and as I've said before ~ a true gentleman and a really great person who was a privilege to play with and also to know.

Dave, you must be shorter now than in this picture, right? If you mean the colour one Andy then probably, as I think I was at my tallest then, but now the larger belly pulls me back closer to the ground by a few inches.

Hi there Young Dave, yes you are correct young Richard has joined the throng of happy TUFF fans and yes very interesting pics that bro Peter has sent. I too remember various people, your good self of course, your brother Peter, sister 'Shirl', and did I see Granny Bess there also. She used to make such great cups of tea at the 'Rec' on saturday afternoons football, a lovelly lady she was too. You and I you could say were next door buddies in those days, with my bro peter usually kicking a ball about down the side paths with an occassional game on the green in the square with as many of the boys as would turn up, although I spent more time messing with my Lambretta than playing footie. Lots to reminisce when we meet up at TU, and very impressed with web site, well done mate.
