Well the winner this week has a big future ahead as a writer I believe, maybe future written words will change minds, make others aware and who knows one day this member could be the editor of the Times, but then I could have got this all wrong and the only writing this person will do will be on the order pad of a local fish and chip shop. ;D
Written to make a very strong point to her Dad and to make us all aware that we have many great young fans, by the one and only
chipnicker1 so a big well done on your excellent post.
I witnessed the 'leader' of one group come over to the boys (thats all they are really, 16/17 years old, without wishing to be to patronising) behind where i was stood and say that they should start a "we want Buckle out" chant as soon as the final whistle went. Sure enough as the whistle went they started and obviously they would have been heard by PB, the players and others around the ground.
I did not want to be associated with this so i moved away as did several others, and its then you realise that there is actually only a small minority making these chants.
There was also a lot of other fans telling these imbeciles to shut the **** up. I actually felt there were more people telling these boys to shut it than there were making these chants.
Because the MAJORITY don't shout "We want Buckle to stay" it must have been perceived that most want him out.
It appears to me that most of those calling for his head are pre pubescent. [glow=yellow,2,300]but these kids don't know shit about our history and very little more about football in general, they have been going for 10 minutes, and whilst they are entitled to their opinion, i would be very disappointed if anybody was influenced into making a decision based on what is perceived to be the fans 'view', when it clearly is not, not at the moment anyway.[/glow].
tufc01,
Whilst I do agree a good post and Well Done on that, you know my feelings towards the highlighted comment.
Yes , I agree these so-called "fans" are wrong to be using such disgraceful language (a bunch of 14 year olds who clearly feel mouthing off + barking 'F***' and 'C***s' at anything and everything is remarkably cool), and calling for PB's head when he hasn't perhaps been given a long enough trial.
However, and it's a big HOWEVER. I feel you are WRONG to judge and patronize all young fans who support TUFC. You have stereotyped young fans in general and accused them of not "knowing enough about TUFC history to make a justified opinion".
So, just because I have not been a supporter for many, many years, does that make me less able to justify any opinions I have?
Even though I follow\attend every game I can, does it mean that because I have not done so for 30 odd years I cannot pass judgement on team selections and board decisions? NO.
Because the fact of the matter is, I follow\attend what is happening NOW, which means I am fully entitled to comment on what is happening NOW – and have the likes of you respect my opinions. Just the way I respect your opinions.
I hold my hands up and admit it would be unfair of me to comment on TUFC decisions\match selections etc. previous to when I began following TUFC. My posts reflect this.
Many may say I am not "knowledgeable" enough about the history of TUFC to pass fair judgement.
Others may say I am too young to understand.
But I believe everyone has to begin somewhere.
You were a "newcomer" at some point, just like I was a few seasons ago.
I am in my 3rd season of supporting TUFC now and have not looked back since that very day YOU took me to my 1st game.
And whilst you may say that I have been a “10 minute supporter”, the only difference between our loyalty to TUFC is our age.
The fact I went to EVERY single home game last season, and most away games, has to count for something. I followed every aspect of the season, even down to "practise match reports" for my journalism courses. I spent hours every day (again the luxury student life eh?) following the online forums, the South Devon/BBC/TUFC Official Site websites for any ounce of information on what has become my beloved team. I am not asking for a medal, or any sympathy. I’m asking for respect for the young fans like myself.
The young fans who do NOT swear and hurl constant realms of abuse at everyone and anyone in the ground.
But the young fans who support the team, get behind the team and most of all follow the team through their highs and their lows.
And while you may argue I have not seen my fair share of TUFC’s highs and lows, I only have one thing to say to that:
I’m TORQUAY ‘TIL I DIE,
I’m TORQUAY ‘TIL I DIE,
I KNOW I AM I’m SURE I AM,
I’m TORQUAY ‘TIL I DIE.
This means whilst I may not have seen them yet, I definitely will endure them at some point in the future.
And whilst I may not have been around long enough to know the ‘ins and outs’ of TUFC’S history (clearly your fault for not making me sooner!!!), I am here now. And I am a loyal TUFC supporter. So give the decent young fans a break, even if they have only been going for “10 minutes” – because we all have to start somewhere.
