In a nutshell we don’t have a winner this week as no one has been able to vote due to the fact that as the forum was rather slow, I took the opportunity to sort out all the codes I have running on the TFF and also to remove a number of boards that no longer are being used on our main page and had been simply hidden.
I was surprised I found nine boards in total no longer used that I could delete, I suppose it does show that the TFF constantly evolves and try’s to improve and provide boards that members want and also will use. Still pressing the delete button to remove for good the old boards is not an easy task as I have to be 100% sure it’s only an old empty board I’m removing and not any content that members have put work into for all our enjoyment. Plus those boards would have had their own banners and so I have also had to redo some of the codes on the forum such as the one that I use that allows me to have a different banner on each board we have running.
Four others on the TFF do have an admin button sitting next to the other buttons under the main banner and their admin panel will only contain anything that has been set by myself they need access too. My panel contains three or four times the things in it and has the dreaded delete forum button in it, since I set up the TFF at least three attempts have been made to hack my account and if they had been successful, then that button could have been used.
The good news is if it was ever used nothing at all gets deleted and all it does is break the link to the server and it would then just be the case I would need to prove ownership and have the link restored. Still to protect my account on here I do changed my passwords three times a week and they are always very complicated ones. One was so complicated once it would not work and I got a bit frantic as I could not log onto the forum and in the end had to contact Proboards to sort it out for me.
What with the World Cup being on with games being played during most of the day, Wimbledon now under way and the fact the weather is so un British like we find we are all close to melting, no news coming out of the club at all, it’s no big surprise the forum as been much slower than normal.
It is important we do all try and play our part and keep the TFF ticking over until we can get back to talking about events, games etc at our club, so we can maintain the interest in our forum for everyone who reads it and posts on it.
I have been very pleased this week with the tone and mood on the TFF and I really hope it continues this way as the TFF has always been about being a good happy community where friendships are made and its members do their best to get on and not do their best to deliberately upset other members who then end up leaving a forum that was also theirs and one they were enjoying using and being a member on.
Caring for others and also their feelings is just who I am I’m afraid and I have got very upset in the past when I know someone has been very upset or even hurt using a forum that I set up to provide pleasure for its users, even more so when there really was no need for it to happen. The TFF is different and I will continue to promote the TFF as a good debating platform free from personal abuse and one that is a very good, friendly and happy community.
Even the best natured and mild people can sometimes lose for a second the self control they pride themselves for having and it happened to me yesterday afternoon and resulted in some woman getting home and phoning up my boss to make a complaint about me.
Mind you after she had her very loud rant she was not prepared to leave a phone number so she could be called back to put the other side of the story and I really wish she had of done as then I could have told her that it was her who was fully in the wrong and was in fact lucky that I’m such an experienced driver or else her nice four x four would now be in a repair workshop.
I was not angry or bothered she had phoned my boss hoping to get me into trouble, that would not have happened anyway as my boss knows me and knows my driving record and also knows I’m best described as a gentleman of the roads, who shows politeness and courtesy to all other road users. NO it was the fact she didn’t even know it was her who was in the wrong and because I was unable to tell her so, she is now probably still telling the story how a white van driver cut her up and was such an aggressive driver who should not even be on the roads, well that’s what she told my boss yesterday.
When I did return to Toolfix yesterday I was greeted with laughter and jokes about me being and angry, aggressive driver who cuts other motorists up and suffers from road rage, as I said if they did not know me and who I am, then I’m sure the phone call from the woman would have been taken a whole lot more seriously.
So what happened? Well I was close to the end of another week driving some 1300 miles and had once again managed to keep myself safe and not allowed any of the mad and dangerous driving other road users were displaying to affect me and my own driving. In the week I had to work hard to prevent an overtaking driver heading for me head on crashing into me and also had to break so hard that the van went into a skid as some fool pulled out from a junction in front of me without even looking.
I have had to ignore all those middle lanners on the M5 and all those who never get into the right lanes they want and then cut me up and force me to have to take action to prevent a crash happening and as usual I saw two road accidents that made me to start hoping and praying all those involved were not seriously hurt or killed.
I had just done the last call in Exeter and was on my way to do just one more call in Exmouth before I was going to head back to Toolfix and then home to Paignton. I drove to the roundabout where the M5 services are (Sowton Industrial estate) on the road that is named the Sidmouth Road, (it’s the road where the new Toys R us store has just been built) and stopped at the lights on the roundabout in the lane on the left that is so clearly marked as the lane for the A376 Exmouth Road.
My lady friend then pulled up beside me in the right hand lane that is clearly marked as the lane to use to gain access to the M5 South. This roundabout was always safe to use and flowed as well as could be expected due to the high traffic volume that uses it until some fool decided the roundabout should have FIVE sets of traffic lights installed all around it.
Entering onto the roundabout from the road I was on there are now two places on the roundabout where if you do not have you wits about you and are fully aware of the danger, you will end up having a crash. The first problem is that the traffic coming off the motorway for the services is directed to get into the right hand lane that goes around the roundabout.
The lights go green for them to enter the roundabout but some end up getting stuck on the second set of lights and are still in the right hand lane, the lights then change for me to go and as you get too the turning into the services in the left hand lane as you should be, you find cars beside you and just in front of you in the right hand lane swerving right in front of you to get across the lane you are in to get into the services.
The second place where you really need to watch the car beside you in the right-hand lane is when you just get off this roundabout, coming off the last part of the roundabout you are steering to the right and then suddenly have to steer to the left and so often you find the fools on your right who have failed to follow the lines correctly around the roundabout are turning into your lane that you did correctly follow around the roundabout.
It is so bad that I always make sure if the car on my right is in front of me a bit, I slow down just in case it enters my lane and if I know the car on my right is not slightly ahead of me I just keep driving as normal.
Well my lady was half a car lengths behind me in the lane marked for the M5 South and planning to get into my lane and clearly believes I was cutting her up and as a result treated me to flashing lights and blastings from her car horn. It is so unusual for me to react to such events but I was over hot and a bit angry someone wrongly was treating me in this way when in fact my driving on this occasion was perfect and it was the other driver completely in the wrong.
I found myself putting my foot on the brake to slow her down as my sign I was not too happy getting blasted by her car horn, but it was only for a few seconds as soon felt I should know better than that and so then just carried on concentring on my driving.
She followed me for some way and turned off into Lympstone after getting very close once to the back of my van to get the company phone number off it so she could phone my boss once she was home. So it looks like she is a local and if only she had left a phone number I would have advised her to go back to the Sowton roundabout and this time use the left hand land and follow the lines as I did so she could see I had done nothing wrong at all and therefore did not deserve her treatment of me.
If she was a reasonable person then hopefully she would then admit she had got it wrong and say sorry, but as is the case in life I’m afraid there will always be people not big enough to admit they are wrong and sadly from time to time we see evidence of that on our forum.
I spent 16 wasted years of my life living with a person who was never wrong and left in the end as I could no longer live a life where I allowed someone to always be right just so I could try and make the home as peaceful a place for my children to live in as I possible could.
It was joked about on here sometime ago about the black and white world I live in, but its so often the best way to look at some things and in a case like this its as simple as you are right or you are wrong and the really big people of this world will always put their hands up when they are wrong as at the end of the day who are you really lying to if you can’t admit when you got it wrong or when it really was your fault.
Yes just yourself and if you can’t even be honest with yourself or look inside at the things you don’t like about yourself and do something about it, then will you ever be really happy and proud of yourself.
If you log into the forum take a good look around and see if there is anything you can post on the forum to help keep it ticking over, here on the TFF we are always more than happy for any old threads to be brought back to life and with the thread preview feature it is now very easy to check out old threads to see what they are about and if it is a thread you could add too.
All the best Dave
