So FIFA is finally waking up to the bleeding obvious......................that most of the leading players taking part are suffering from burn out. When the manager of Spain, who stand poised to become world Champions; complains of his squad's general standard of fitness as being "disappointing" and the manager of England confirms the same. We can all see it in France and Italy and the European based African players who had to travel to the continent for their ridiculous selections in the African Nations in January before jetting all the way back again in June; it's time to sit up and take notice. Add to the FACT that from amongst these renowned goal scorers: Messi, Rooney, Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Torres only one goal has been forthcoming, isn't it time to bring about the following changes ~ That no African federation may select a player for both the AFCoN and The World Cup in the same half season, and that future World Cups are played later in the calender year so that they are in effect the first competitive games the European based players take part in rather than the last of a very arduous season for their clubs?

What is clear is that whilst the World Cup remains the most prestigious cup to win in football it isnt the best tournament. Many players, managers and fans have spoken out recently that the Champions League is better at all levels. This hasn't been a great tournament and the emphasis has seen most teams trying more to nullify their opponents rather than attacking to win. Fatigue is one issue of course but it isnt the only thing thats wrong with the World Cup.
