So the talk of moving to a new more central ground continues and takes a step forward with the setting up of a four year town fund to raise money toward any move.
Also plans have been draw up for a 100 foot extension to the main stand that would add 500 extra seats and five hundred standing places in front of it at a cost of only 6 or 7 thousand pounds. This must have been done and I wonder if Barton can remember where on the forum we have the pictures of the old stand before this extension was added as they would be worth looking at again.

Of course it was done Dave...................it's the current concrete section of the grandstand ~ although I don't know how much "taking down and re-locating" it would stand up to these days. Thjere was a spectacular case of dismantling and re-locating carried out in the early sixties when the grandstand from Hurst Park racecourse was taken down on the closure of the course and reconstructed at Field Mill, Mansfield where it stood in magnificent glory until the redevelopment of the ground a few years ago. Anyone too who has sat in the away end at Vale Park might be unaware that they might also have sat in the same stand when it was the Grandstand at the old Sealand Road Ground of Chester City before the ground closed several years ago now; but I wonder if there is anyone at all who sat in the old "Pigeon Loft" stand that used to sit atop the Kop at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground when it was in it's previous incarnation as the circle at one of the town's local cinemas! Kiora, anyone? ;D |
