What the feck did the author of the Trinidad pen pics think he was writing for in his description of Doyle Griffith ~ a damned Sale of Slaves Catalogue? That's got to be the most shameful sentence I have ever read in any football programme, let alone a Torquay United one!

That's got to be the most shameful sentence I have ever read in any football programme, let alone a Torquay United one! It makes you wonder if this was written by a white, colonial-style official of the Trinidad FA. Certainly this was the period when the West Indies cricket team was still captained by white players. Trinidad, especially, continued (continues?) to have a colonial class for a long time after independence and an abiding memory of my first year at university was sharing digs with a member of the "elite" who voiced opinions that would have done many an Afrikaaner politician proud. Some pictures from www.ttfootballhistory.com. The first claims to be a picture of the Trinidad team prior to the game at Torquay (Newton Abbot railway station?):
