On a day trip to Bath with Carol while doing the river walk near Pulteney Bridge the gates to the Rec on that side of the ground were open. I would imagine there is some sort of public right of way at one end of the ground and so while not a rugby fan myself, I took the opportunity to grab some pictures of the ground.
When you walk through this gate you see a very large grassed open area with the Rec ground tucked up at one end closest to the river. On the left hand side are buildings that must be the club house and bar and in front of these buildings a tarmac road that in a picture I have seen doubles up as a standing area for fans, then next is the pitch itself.
Looking to the right is one stand that covers a large part of the pitch on that side and behind the posts at the far end is a rather nice looking stand known as the Hamptons Stand.
When ever I think about a game of Rugby I think of men covered in mud playing in a mud field and while I know that no rugby would have taken place on the Rec pitch for a while, I was really impressed with the quality of the pitch. Running the risk of upsetting Aussie, the quality of the grass and the whole pitch looked better than our surface up at Plainmoor.
I see Barton Downs has put a picture up of the Rec ground on the Bath City thread in the days out room. I will reuse that picture on this thread as it looks so very different to how the Rec looks now.
Note poor Carol having to stand and wait as I went on a walk about
