If that's the case, forever tufc, then I'd be pleased if you would also remind other contributors of that, and not single me out as though I had hijacked this thread. Other people on this thread have veered from the title (including at least one person who I would have thought should kept quiet where commenting on others' actions is concerned), but I note you have not upbraided them. Please do not presume to tell me what I may nor may intend by my postings, and who are you to imply that I lack respect? I take great exception to that. I have expressed my condolences to Adam's family and friends. I have stated that I think it is a tragedy for such a young man to lose his life in such a way. I'm not sure what more you could want from me. There needs to be a proper debate on here about free speech, and what it means to the site owner/operator, because - clearly - his ideas and mine about what constitutes a forum appear to differ widely. If Dave R wishes to delete all of my (and others') posts from this thread, so that it can be left as a genuine tribute from TUFC fans to Adam, then I am happy for that - although please then leave my own condolences in place. Calm down Sue! This is a thread about showing some respect for a local footballer that many users on this site will have seen play. Dave S was politely warned that it was not appropriate to comment any further and when he continued has been suspended to cool off as opposed to being banned. Very little action is taken on this site but there are some responsibilities that come with free speech. Please feel free to start a new topic outside this room but kindly leave it there on this thread.

Shocking news really. I knew he was ill late last season but did not know he would pass away so quickly. Surely it is that which makes it all the more shocking and only 31 years old with a young family. Its terrible, doesn't really matter that you did not know him personally. A real shame that the thread has degenerated into the squabbling and lecturing though.

Dave (R, that is) I think you have made a mistake in banning Dave TG. He is, after all, simply stating his opinion, and as an opinion, it has validity, no matter how much you might disagree with it. Banning him also denies him the right of reply to come on here and defend himself against those who hold different views. This is fundamental to a ‘forum’, which is supposed to be an exchange of views. Or are we not permitted to hold opposing positions? If you are not going to allow people to hold views other than those you find acceptable, then perhaps you should change the name of this website. DTG is, after all, simply re-stating the arguments against the so-called “Princess Diana Syndrome” and seems to have touched a nerve with it. For the record, I think it is a tragedy that such a young man, who gave such pleasure to many (not least Jeff Stelling!) has lost his life to such a horrible disease. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. sue this thread is not about opinions, like any normal thread. it was a thread clearly designed for people to leave there condolences and nothing else, totaly wrecked by DTG,and i must say your are not helping.(this is my honest view) the only reason why i am not tearing strips of dave the gull,is dave.r has asked us not to,and return this thread to what it was meant for. please respect that sue. This thread was created an hour after the original thread was created in a more appropriate place. I think that it's absolutely tragic that this young man lost his life to such a terrible disease but I can see where DTG and Sue are coming from as regards to the "Lady Di syndrome". We all handle grief in different ways and want to show our respect in different ways. It's my own personal thing that I'm against public outpourings of grief even though I've lost enough family members and the odd friend over the years in various circumstances. For the record I think DTG chose his words wrongly but it's just as tragic that people die either in Chinese Landslides and or Pakistani Floods or from Cancer or from M15 hit squads in Paris road tunnels. I'll probably make a donation to the Pakistani appeal even though David Cameron believes that most of them sponsor or collude with the Taliban. But I'm not compelled to write tributes down. There was and still is a more discreet thread in a more discreet area to pay your respects to Adam Stansfield. Quite why another one in the main Torquay United area was created an hour later is another matter. Did we really need two threads for the same subject? If, like Dave in Thailand, you look at the main Torquay United area more than the others then you're going to feel like this is thread being forced down your throat a bit. It's just an observation.

Fair point Chris, I don't know why it was put in the Tufc room anyway! In respect of the Princess Di syndrome, I don't think anyone is suggesting we make a shrine or anything but for some fans to pass comment on a football forum about the passing of a local footballer should be fine.

As a city fan living in Torbay I often read websites from many football clubs because I love football. Having trawled through sky sports, BBC sports and many football fans forums it dissapoints me to see the only web site which lacks respect re Adam Stansfield is yours, by way of Dave the Gull. I hope that the good people of Torquay United treat this individual with the disgust that he deserves. Best of luck for the forthcoming season. UTC

If you had read the whole thread I am sure you would clearly see that dtg's thoughts are not shared by the majority of Torquay fans

UTC redandwhite, on behalf of the TFF I sincerely apologise to you and all Exeter City fans for the remarks made on this Thread. You will notice I took the action I felt was necessary for the member concerned and I stand by the decision I made.

I believe Torquay United's awareness of Adam Stansfield started with the Devon St Luke's game against Elmore in May 2000 when Wes Saunders was in charge. Relevant or not, it makes us ponder life's fates and it's poignant to see Steve Tully's name in our line-up given he was later to play alongside Adam Stansfield (including his final game in March 2010): You are right, as usual, Barty. This was reported in the Express and Echo towards the end of May 2000: "Torquay United are ready to offer Elmore strike prospect Adam Stansfield another route into the Nationwide League.
The prolific Eagles ace has been tracked by Exeter City for the past 2 seasons. But St James's Park boss Noel Blake has no plans to pursue the Grecians' interest in the 21 year old hitman.
And now Division 3 rivals Torquay have offered Stansfield an extended trial.
Stansfield Impressed Gulls Boss Wes Saunders in their Devon St Luke's Challenge Bowl visit to Horsdon Park earlier this month. And Saunders plans to take a close look at Stansfield during a 2 week spell in July.
Stansfield has blasted 44 goals since joining SDL Premier division Elmore from Cullompton in 1998.
And he has made superb recovery from the horrific knee injury which sidelined him for 3 months last year."I wonder if a young Adam also played in our Bowl game with Elmore in the previous season - which Elmore won 4-3. Adam did feature for us in the 2000 pre-season games, but Wes finally decided to go for the far more expensive Habib Sissoko instead. He is a former Torquay United player - but one off Barton's alternative list of players who never played a "first-class" game. It's also worth remembering that he was a team mate of Paul Buckle, Wayne Carlisle and Chris Todd - so his passing will have hit our squad pretty hard. RIP Adam Stansfield.

DTG, I find your comments distasteful at the very least. How can you treat the loss of a life, regardless of how insignificant it is to you personally with such disdain?
Life is the most precious gift we have and the loss of any life should be treated with the utmost respect and humility, you have done neither.
You rightly mention the loss of life in China, you could have also added the sad loss of so many in Pakistan, but if you felt that strongly about it you could easily have started you own thread on this. If you had I can guarantee that ALL of the replies would have shown respect & remorse. I also believe that NONE of the replies would have shown the complete lack of respect that you afforded Adam Stansfield.
You claim to have ‘been there got the T-Shirt’, which make your comments even more incredulous. I find it hard to get my head around the notion that anyone who has suffered a such a loss would be so heartless in their comments on this thread.
I too have suffered the loss of a very very close family member and this only serves to heighten my awareness as to the suffering his family and friends are going through right now.
Whilst I appreciate that most of your comments on here are designed to generate ‘discussion’, (for discussion read wind people up), there is no need for such insensitivity and disrespect. I also appreciate the notion of freedom of speech, however why is it that people with controversial and disrespectful comments always pull that card.
