All the suits marvelled at how on earth a loony in a TUFC shirt got so many hits on the site of such a small club, but proceded to ignore what he said. Mervo could see that the technology was bad, the format bad and that the business assumptions were ridiculous. He told Mike Bateson, but unfortunately Mervyn had already gone and signed the deal without really looking at it. From there, the club carried on with torquayunited.com (which I think Mervo's site had been called) as the FLPTV (??) site and Mervo snapped up the name torquayunited.net to carry on running as it had been running. ..................and that , in a nutshell; is the daft way they carried on wasn't it. Putting a building contractor in charge of decision making about IT and the media, employing a plumber as groundsman and baulking at any managerial applicant who told them that the professional way to run a football club was to employ nutritional expertise and fitness professionals. These people never cottoned on to the fact that the smaller the staff, the more professional those staff need to be....................Jesus, we even lost an experienced manager because the club wouldn't employ an Assistant Manager!

Wiarton also had one of the greatest weekly (I think) newspapers I have ever read, and their announcements column was absolutely priceless. Among the births, deaths and marriages, you had the 'visits' section where Mr and Mrs Gibbes visited Mr and Mrs merse and had a lovely steak dinner and Mr and Mrs Roach visited the Chelstons for a drink and a fine game of chess, won by the Chelstons. Fantastic! Bloody 'ell, that would cause murders round my neighbourhood ~ half the women don't know who's bed their men slept in the night before. "Monday: merse popped round the neighbours for a cup of sugar and found to his dismay that she was wearing nothing but a thong and a big smile" "Tuesday: he'll be back soon" ~ in my dreams

..................and that , in a nutshell; is the daft way they carried on wasn't it. Putting a building contractor in charge of decision making about IT and the media.....( In fairness, I think that all the highly paid Chief Executives of other League clubs did exactly the same. How many clubs were not tempted by the promise of untold riches? I think that FLPTV had a near clean sweep. And of course if we had had a "professional" CEO who knew the value of everything and the cost of nothing running the show back then, I doubt if there would have been anyone willing and able to dig us out of the £1.3m black hole that he might hypothetically have dug us into!

Beginning to wonder if this is a forum after all.
