On Thursday 22nd July 2010, I visited Canvey Island's other team, namely CONCORD RANGERS - who will ply their trade in the RYMAN LEAGUE PREMIER for the first time this season, following their winning of the Ryman 1 North title last term.
Formed in 1967, "THE BEACHBOYS" as they are known, play at THAMES ROAD - a home they have had only since acquiring the land in 1985.
The photos below were taken as I did an anti-clockwise circuit of the ground, prior to their Pre Season fixture against a Bishop's Stortford reserve/youth side.
Concord eventually won this fixture by 4 goals to nil, watched by a crowd of 112.
Incidentally, for the ground hoppers out there, admission fees for the 2010/11 Season are as follows: Adults £9, Concessions £5 (both inclusive of programme) and Under 16's get free entry.
THE MAIN ENTRANCE AND ONLY TURNSTILES INTO THE GROUND.
THE VIEW ON ENTERING THAMES ROAD.
"WELCOME, BUT KEEP OFF THE PITCH!!", IS THE MESSAGE - PERHAPS DUE TO A RATHER LARGE ESCAPED SNAKE ON THE PERIMETER WALKWAY!!
THIS IS THE COVERED TERRACING BEHIND THE GOAL AT THE CLUBHOUSE END OF THE GROUND.
....AND THIS, THE SMALL, FLAT, COVERED STANDING AREA AT THE OTHER END.
NOTE THE LARGE CARAVAN PARK IN THE BACKGROUND - I BELIEVE THAT THE CLUB IS TRYING TO GAIN PERMISSION TO BUILD A HIGHER BOUNDARY WALL TO PREVENT THE LOCALS GAINING FREE, UNOBSTRUCTED VIEWS ON MATCHDAYS.
THE MAIN STAND - SEATED, IT'S CAPACITY IS AROUND THE 120 MARK.
VIEW FROM BEHIND THE GOAL - AS THE STORTFORD KEEPER WARMS UP.
MUCH MORE ACTIVITY DOWN THE OTHER END - AS CONCORD GO THROUGH THEIR PRE MATCH PREPARATIONS.
DIAGONAL VIEW BACK TO THE TURNSTILES AND THE CLUBHOUSE.
NOTE THE BRICKWORK ON THE END OF THE CLUBHOUSE - ALTHOUGH BADLY FADED AND WEATHERED, THE WORDS "CONCORD FC" CAN JUST BE MADE OUT ON CLOSER INSPECTION.
CONCORD'S VERY OWN TRIBUTE TO EASTER ISLAND - THE DUGOUTS LOOK OUT OVER THAMES ROAD!!
THE SHALLOW CORRUGATED IRON COVER BEHIND THE GOAL.
LOOKING ACROSS THE PITCH TOWARDS THE MAIN STAND.
LOOKING ALONG THE PLASTIC, RACECOURSE TYPE PERIMETER FENCE TO THE FAR END, WITH THE CARAVAN PARK TO THE LEFT.
THE MAIN STAND VIEWED THROUGH THE BACK OF THE NET!!
AND FINALLY, THE STRANGE CONSTRUCTION OF THE COVERED TERRACING - WITH IT'S PARTITIONS, IT REMINDED ME OF A GOLF DRIVING RANGE!!
