Timbo's programmes are coming thick and fast. Apologies for not being able to comment on all of them. Over 2,000 for a reserve game against the mighty Taunton Town. We must have enjoyed a keen rivalry with them in the Western League in the 1950s as a Taunton v Torquay United Res game at Wordsworth Drive drew 2,960 in 1958, a ground record until the Vase semi against Tiverton. And I hear Taunton had 1,100 at the Drive today for a charity match against the Royal Marines. Reference also to the Rev E C Gimblett, cousin of the Somerset cricketer Harold. Quite a story behind Harold Gimblett: a century on his Somerset debut as a late call-up; a short England career that rather overwhelmed him; eventual suicide after unhappily living in a caravan in Dorset. David Foot’s brilliant biography of Gimblett was titled “Tormented Genius of Cricket” and the Wiki article looks sound at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Gimblett
