Well carefully packed up and stored away at the moment.................. Any of you who visited the New Rec for one of our two Conference fixtures there would be shocked at the sight of the ground as it currently stands, as all that is left is a rubble strewn pitch, the flats that stand down one side and the boarded up club house and ball court that were behind one end. The ground only staged it's final fixture on April 24th when Forest Green Rovers became the last BSP side to appear there and then the former owner and benefactor Mike Woodward immediately set to work dismantling the floodlights, main stand ~ complete with seating and press box, the other three terrace covers on the ground, dugouts and pitch side barriers and had them safely stored for their possible re-use should the football club secure a site for a stadium of their own as opposed to the ground share with neighbouring East Thurrock they currently ubdertake at the expense of their Conference South status. The two uncovered terraces behind either goal have been demolished and the whole site presents a sorry spectacle. What is particularly poignant to me is that I always thought that those identically blue clad constructions bore a striking resemblance to Plainmoor's popside and Babbacombe End ~ food for thought indeed!
