So on from Slovenia to Austria with a review and pictures of the Gerhard-Hanappi Stadion in Vienna which is home to Austria's most successful team SK Rapid Wien or Rapid Vienna as we know them. The stadion is in a western suburb of Vienna and it was built in 1977 and has a capacity of 18,500. Rapid Vienna themselves have won the Austrian Championship 32 times and the cup 14 times. Although 16 of the Championship wins were before the nationwide Austrian Bundesliga was set up! Interestingly enough during and after the 1938 Anschluss Rapid Vienna became the first non German club to win the German Cup in 1938 (a sweetner for the Austrian people from the Fuhrer perhaps) and in 1941 they became first and only non German club to win the German Championship, although technically they were a German club at the time despite the efforts of the Von Trapp family and their feisty Nanny. They've also been runner up twice in the European Cup Winner's cup. Beaten once of course by Everton. Some photos. The English style club pub!
