Last friday night's game after leaving Vienna was an Austrian second division game (called the Erste Liga) between SV Grödig and FC Gratkorn. I paid 9 euros to get in. SV Grödig play their home games in the town of Grödig which is about 4 km to the south west of Salzburg. They've progressed up the leagues, in a story similar to Histon. The town's population is about 6,500 people which is a bit less than Totnes. But now they're just one division below the likes of Rapid Vienna, Red Bull Salzburg and Austria Vienna. They are managed by ex Austrian International striker Heimo Pfeifenberger who played 40 times for Austria scoring 9 goals. The Stadium is called the Untersberg Arena and named after the almost 2,000 metre tall mountain just behind Grödig. The stadium holds 2,200 but it has the first example of two tiered terracing I've seen in ages. The upstairs bar and BBQ also has a viewing area! It was a very enjoyable place to watch football. SV Grödig started as favourites and scored after only 5 minutes but Gratkorn came back and won the game 4-1 in front of 760 supporters. Anyway some photos. One with the Untersberg mountain behind it! The main stand with the first floor beer terrace with standing room capacity. Downstairs Bar and Sausage Grill.
