Saturday 18th September catching the 0916 from Torquay due to arrive in Looe Bay at 1136. Return ticket only £10.50. In all my excitement forgot to take any pictures of the trains. Anyway the train to Newton Abbot was a bug unit and to my horror so was the Penzance train. It has been a very busy week or so at work, despite some folk thinking all I do is eat buns all day and look forward to going home. The views going across the Saltash Bridge were absolutely fantastic and there we were in good old Cornwall. These shots are from Saltash coming into Devon. Sorry, but my small compact Samsung does not do the views justice. I must confess to looking forward to taking my wife up (or in this case down) the branch line. I was to say a little disappointed in the general views but not to take away from a nice leafy trip into Looe. I could hear some noise and bells and thought "oh crikey, the lepers are in town", but not to worry it was the local Morris Men. A quick walk about and a picture of one of the happy local fisherman. Off for a spot of lunch at Ye Olde Salutation Inn, washed down with a couple of pints of Doom Bar. Proper job. Then a nice stroll onto the beach area for an ice cream and a rest. We thought about a proper Cornish Cream tea, but didn't have time and caught the 1500 back to Torquay. All in all a nice day out and one that can be recommended.

Thanks for sharing with us your trip to Looe Phil, it’s a place I know well and love. It does get rather full in the summer months and I much prefer to go there in the winter time when it’s not so crowded.
It’s great when the fishermen return to the quay side and it reminds you that while the visitors are very important to Looe, it’s still a small fishing village where many live their lives in the village much the same as their fathers did before them.
It has never allowed itself to get spoiled and has made sure it has kept its old worldly charm and character.
