Store says it with flowers

A STATIONERY store played the part of the Good Samaritan after a man was issued with a parking ticket when he visited his sick wife at Torbay Hospital.
Dave Roach, 53, parked at Bridge Retail Park and rushed across to the Ricky Grant Cancer Unit to be with his wife Carol who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Mr Roach, from Brixham Road in Paignton, left work early to be with his wife who has been having 'terrible problems' with the chemotherapy.
"I could not park at the hospital so I parked in Staples car park and ran to the unit as quickly as I could. My only thought was to be with my wife," he said.
When Mr Roach returned to his car after his wife's treatment he had been issued with a £50 parking ticket.
He said: "I couldn't believe it. I came home very emotional because the cancer unit is a difficult place to spend time in. I emailed Staples and told them I would not shop there again. They replied telling me they were just tenants on the site.
"Staples offered to sort it out and sent me a cheque for £50 to cover the cost of the ticket. They took me at face value and it wasn't their responsibility to do that anyway.
"Then on Saturday my wife opened the front door and there was a huge bouquet of flowers for her from Staples. It really touched my heart to see such kindness from people."
Carol, who is a carer at Jack Sears House Retirement Home in Torquay, was first diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and in February she found another small lump. She has undergone two operations to try to clear the chest wall and has had problems with her kidney and one of her ribs.
"She is undergoing very intensive chemotherapy and she has been very ill," Mr Roach explained.
Staples general manager Lindsay Drohan said: "We are glad we could help on this occasion. Our customers are our main priority and we are here to help them. We will do anything we can to make sure when they come to the store they have a pleasant experience.
"We hope the flowers brightened up Mrs Roach's day and we wish her a swift recovery."
