It was a lovely day in sunny Torquay, so we decided to take a look at Rock Walk to see if it was for the better ;D or for the worse . Have to say what a superb view of what must be one of the best views in the world - why would you want to live any where else? Not the best quality picture - taken with the IPhone camera.

Took the dog for a run on Torre abbey sands the other evening and decided to have a look at it after. It was just starting to get dark and the steps were lit up, once up the top.......you're right it certainly is a lovely view, definitely one of the very few places in the bay these days, where you can close your eyes and imagine that you are in some sunny spot on the med . They've done a good job with it......but why the hell did it take so many years

That's a superb photograph. Truly beautiful and well captured. What an inspired job that was done on Rock Walk, who inspired it Phil?

Not sure Merse, but I guess Mr Bye had an influence and therefor should be congratulated - I'm sure if it was rubbish he'd be to blame. Not sure if the attached helps. rockwalktorquay.blogspot.com/

I must say that vision gained from the link you put up puts Torbay in a very positive light for any prospective visitor ~ better than all the moaning minnies who just complain at any change. Well done mate! The natural beauty of the place has been enhanced through modern technology and imagination which has to be done in this day and age of really competitive pitching for the tourist trade. I would think the chance to get a higher perspective would appeal to many prospective visitors who can also use the much maligned balloon as well just as many towns and cities now boast a large ferris type wheel has been used such as The London Eye and Manchester's and Birmingham's slightly smaller wheels. To listen to some people you would think these things were eyesores instead of tourist attractions. I've often wondered what the possibilities were of Torquay United constructing an "Eagle's Eye Tube" up the side of one of the floodlight pylons at Plainmoor, or even in place of one. Having been up one of those towers myself and wondered at the fabulous vista, I know it would be a sure fire attraction to the town and a valued revenue stream to the club. When I was the Business Manager and we instigated the very first two way radio transmitter on one of the towers in conjunction with Torbay Taxis you should have heard the fuss from the usual NIMBY suspects, yet look at them now almost thirty yeas later; what was all the fuss about? It's no wonder people with a bit of vision and ambition get pissed off and move away isn't it.

Got to agree with the comments so far with regards to Rock Walk - it was certainly worth the wait on it's completion. With the walkways lit up at night, it really is a sight to behold - I'm sure it's going to be a winner with the tourists too ............ ............... I can't wait to have a proper view of it from the balloon!
