Today I drove the 7.2 miles from Ealing to Hampton to take in the Blue Square Conference Match between Hampton and Richmond Borough FC and Woking, who are in their second season in the Blue Square South.
I found the Beveree to be one of the more pleasant places to watch football. At one end there is a small all seater stand next to a Double Portakabin affair with the club bar next to that. The main side nearest the turnstiles comprises of quite deep covered terracing until the half way line and then there is a block of covered seating which then goes into a more temporary looking block of seating. The other end and opposite side are open except for a very small covered area to the right of the Italia 90 style perspex dugouts. Both the more open sides are flanked by large beech trees which gave off a slightly New England autumnal magnificence.
The burgers looked fantastic as well but I was strong and wasn't led into temptation. The next time perhaps. We had the longest half time break after one of the linesmen fell ill at half time. Half time eventually last nigh on 30 minutes!
Woking eventually won the game 2-1 in the last minute with two goals from the impressive Elvis Hammond who after life at Fulham, Leicester and Cheltenham is probably playing a division or two below his true level. He's partnered up front by Craig Falconbridge who's played at a higher level. They've also nicked Moses Ademola from Brentford who's very quick on the right wing and their big centre half Joe McNerney seems like a pretty decent young player.
As for Hampton and Richmond. They look a bit limited but quite solid at the back marshalled by the very vocal Orlando Jeffrey.
Anyway. A few photos. A few more than usual as I was happier than usual with how these turned out!
This poor bloke asked me what I'd done with his newspaper at half time!
