After three wins in a week culminating in the FA Cup win at Mansfield, there was as usual some great match reports, none more so than from a debut poster, Johncad who very nearly won this award from his first post!
However, it has been a difficult week on the forum with much debate on how it is run. With much emotion and passion flying around it took a calm, well thought out post to cut to the chase and ultimately was the only poster to receive any vote on this thread.
This week's winner goes to a man with a staggering amount of knowledge about all things TUFC and has my heartfelt congratulations! Well done Jon!!!
Below is what I believe to be his main post this week.
I was going to say the added i in "full-bloodied" was a typo, but on reflection it probably isn't.
Your view of what "a site like this" should be is much the same as Merse's. In fairness, it is the way that just about every forum (football, music, politics or whatever) works.
Dave R's view of what a forum should be appears to be completely different - that it should not be a case of he who shouts loudest and has the thickest skin emerges as the bloodied victor, thumbing his nose at the bloodied vanquished.
I am not saying either view is right or wrong and if you think that Dave is a silly old hippy living in a fairy dairy land, then you are entitled to that view.
However, I think you are forgetting one very important thing in suggesting that Dave should toughen up or ship out and leave the real men to prove who has the biggest b0llocks.
This place only exists because Dave decided to set it up. He only decided to set it up because he was fed up with other forums and wanted to set one up which had a different ethos. He has invested a lot of time and effort into the project. That work has given people the choice of joining his "fairy dairy land" or sticking to one of the millions of old-style forums out there.
All this talk of Merse being banned unreasonably is missing the point. Merse has became increasingly disdainful and mocking of Dave's idea of how he wants his forum to be. He has said he doesn't want to be part of a forum run in the way that Dave wants his run.
There is absolutely no point in being part of a "club" when you utterly despise the founding principles of the club. You are in the wrong place and need to try somewhere else to entertain yourself.
Merse has had - and almost certainly still has - the choice of at least tolerating if not fully embracing Dave's principles or refusing to tolerate them. That is his call and nobody else's. His answer is an emphatic refusal to bend. We all have to make choices in life on whether to meet someone half way or not and we have to live with the consequences. I reckon Merse would agree with me on that.
As an analogy, if I said you were welcome to come round my house for a coffee as long as you didn't sh1t on the carpet and you said that you would be delighted to come round for a coffee but sh1tting on carpets is what you do and you will change for nobody, what would that prove?
Some would say I had banned you from my house. Others would say that you had decided that you didn't want to come round my house because you were not prepared to compromise on your excremental preferences.
