Back to topic..... Aussies all out on a flat batting track for 245 after winning the toss but losing three very quick wickets! Only four players made it into double figures but three fifties in that lot. Hussey top scored again with 93 and is in a rich vein of form. Looking very good for England and I fear it is going to be a long hard slog for the Aussies in this match. Time to see if the bowling changes are up to something. Katich received the dubious honour of getting out without facing a ball! ;D The old Diamond duck. Doesn't happen that often. The last Aussie who got one was Wayne Phillips back in 1984. I was surprised that they dropped Hilfenhuis but I guess that they wanted to keep a left armer (Bollinger) and get the local man (Harris) in. But what a great start though. 3 for 3 at one point. It's one of those rare occasions when you listen to some good news from Australia filter through on the radio. So we need to bat for 5 sessions now, build up a nice big lead of 250 or so and get amongst them again. Watson, Hussey and Haddin seem to be our biggest obstacles and dear Ponting seems to be a little bit pissed off at the moment. But a dangerous man.

Early doors chaps, looks like a lively wicket unlike at the Gabba where it was dead!

Early doors chaps, looks like a lively wicket unlike at the Gabba where it was dead! Didn't get too worried after our first innings total in the last test so trying not to get too carried away after today. Still a long way to go but if we can hang on to our wickets and post a big total we have an outstanding chance of going one up. Been following English cricket for long enough to know that things can change very quickly. Having said that, hats off to the lads for a great start.

At 317 - 2 England are very much in the driving seat! Cook has been a revelation and it wasn't too long ago that his poor run of form meant he was in very real danger of being dropped! I wonder if he can go on and make a successive double hundred! The Aussies will have to make a comeback similar to England in the first test but I think this will be much harder as England have the better and fresher bowling attack. I think the momentum is very much with England at present and gut feeling is that we will retain the ashes.

Can`t fault that train of thought at all at the moment, we shall have to wait a while before we know for sure though!

551 - 4 at tea but then rain stopped play. The forecast is not great over the next two days so maybe the game will end in a draw - 0-0 after two games means it is still game on for the smallest trophy in the world! However, if play can resume under a fair amount of cloud cover, conditions could be very different with a bit of rough at one end and the ball swinging around at the other!

Got to dissagree with that mate, we need to improve our bowling or give you the bloody urn now, that South African fella does my head in as well, he`ll hit nothing for ages and then come out with that, what an innings! I don`t want to draw or win a game because of rain, perhaps they should look at playing five days of cricket for a test match instead of four days of cricket and one of rain, so what if the test stretches out over six or seven days.

What a statement of intent it would be if England had the balls to declare overnight and summon the Aussie openers to the crease at midnight tonight - assuming the pitch isn't frozen that is- turn them over in two sessions and win by an innings in 4 days Failing to win at Cardiff, came back to haunt the Aussies last time around so lets not forget the series is still level, 0-0 at the moment. Test cricket is the best form of the game and long may it continue. A good draw and a bad draw are identical, weather affected or not, its the wins that really count. So If England fail to win this one, Cardiff scenario all over again, it's very much 'Game on'. If they do, retaining the ashes should be a formality. Mind you, its a funny old game too.

Australia are 238-4 at the close, still 137 runs behind. New ball is due very shortly. I still stand by my comment that rain could force a draw. England need to take early wickets to get a result from this match.

Well done Pommies, hopefully we will find a bowler or two for the next one and make a game of it!

Well done Pommies, hopefully we will find a bowler or two for the next one and make a game of it! Very gracious of you mate, i can't remember ever seeing an Australian bowling attack lacking so much bite. Maybe Johnson will come back in, i thought it was harsh to drop him anyway seeing as it was such a batting pitch in the first test. IMHO he remains your most dangerous bowler.

There`s talk of Glenn Mcgrath and Shane Warne coming back, some news paper in Melbourne did a survey and 70% were for it!

There`s talk of Glenn Mcgrath and Shane Warne coming back, some news paper in Melbourne did a survey and 70% were for it! Warney is priced 16/1 to make a comeback for the next test. But with a bit of bounce at the WACA you need a bit more pace and venom. I expect Mitchell Johnson to be back, Ryan Harris looks quick and hostile enough. It's a shame for you that Shaun Tait's body couldn't stand up to the vigours of Test Cricket. The same goes for Brett Lee. I always quite liked Stuart Clark as a bowler as well. Broad going is a bit of a blow but his departure leaves the door open for Tremlett, who might be ideal for the WACA, or Shahzad or Bresnan.
