I did not say anything this morning, but I received three phone calls last night and five PM’s in total. I thank those who made contact with me and for the information given; it helps me to make informed choices that helps to run the forum. I ended up feeling that there are things now in the game of football that I really do not like.
There was a time once when football was just going to a game, but running a forum I have so learned that I will often get to hear and be shown another side of what goes on. That is the real reason I just wanted to go and watch two teams playing football, because they love to play this wonderful game, at a level where there is no corruptness, just a few cheating linesmen.
So I went to Buckfastleigh with Ant, great to spend some time with him anyway, he is so busy these days and we never get to talk that much. We pulled up in the carpark and I got a text message from Jamie, so Ant walked on and I gave my good mate a quick call. Ant was talking to a guy who looked about 55 to 60 years old, he had keeper’s gloves on, but I thought he was just a groundsman. Turns out he is about 48 years old and has always been the Beesands keeper.
I was assured he was a class act and I would be impressed with him, so despite his bandy legs and his farmers sounding voice, I thought I will trust what I was told. It was a top of the table clash, first v second and Buckfastleigh being in the top spot.
The game kicked of and soon the Bee’s keeper was in the limelight, came rushing out of his box and I believe it was handball, but the old fox went down holding his face. Shouts of get him off ref were ringing around. I should quickly tell you about the ref, a young 16 year old boy doing his second league game.
I took the time after the match to go with Ant and I gave the ref a big pat on the back, he had run the game very well and when you think about his age against the age of the men on the pitch, he controlled everything so well.
The Bees linesman was flagging for everything and soon words between the benches were being heard, he flagged again after only about ten Mins for offside, but the player who got the ball was clearly on and a square pass, followed a good shot, had Bucks in the lead. A pen halfway through the first half saw Bucks go two up, then on36 Mins a 25 yard free kick screamed into the Bucks net to make the halftime score two one.
The second half was one way traffic, Bees not really ever getting into the bucks half and the Bucks keeper only touched the ball once I think. Bucks went on to score five more goals to make the final score seven to one. I did have a word with the guy who said I would be impressed with the Bees keeper, but to be fair he did not stand much chance with any of the goals.
A good afternoon out, two teams who played the ball on the floor and were honest and I needed to watch such a game today. Loved the tea lady, wish she was my gran and yes the drinks and the food were at the prices I like (just for Merse that remark)
