Spotted, but didn't buy, this one on e-bay. Two names stand out in the Bournemouth side. Phil Ferns was to gain great popularity with travelling TUFC fans three months later when he sliced the ball over a mad-eyed grey-haired 6'4" keeper into his own net right infront of us and suffered the kind of rollocking that he would never have suffered at school. Ian Leigh joined us on loan for a short period. Two of our team went on to play league football - Mark (son of Harry) Smith and Damien Keeley. Micky (son of Geoff, brother of Maurice) Cox is at right back. The half-back line (yes, I know it wasn't really a half-back line) were all Sherwell Valley boys. Colin Williams was an apprentice professional but I guess all the others were at school or college or work. There are at least four TBGS boys (Cox, Smith, Pratt, Moore). Mitch Moore was in my year and was last heard of playing for Leatherhead in the Isthmian League. TUFC won this game 1-0 - quite an achievement given they would have travelled up to Bournemouth after a day's work or study. We ran into trouble in the next round losing 7-1 at home to Bristol City. I would imagine the City team was made up of young professionals and full-time apprentices - they were a top-flight club at the time.
