Final destination during our weekend in October was The Britannia Stadium for the Stoke City versus Manchester United game. A Dutch friend of mine arranged tickets for the away end. The Britannia is a relatively new ground, nothing special but always better than let's say Boro's Riverside. Sir Stanley Matthews' statue in front of the ground is definitely worth a visit! United played like shit but ran out as winners after all. Unfortunately we didn't witness Stoke's famous atmosphere. The Delilah chant was decent but certainly not overwhelming. I'll keep my comments about United's faithfull safe with me....

Nice photos Rob. What was the atmosphere like? I've heard Stoke fans make a decent bit of noise.

Stoke's famous atmosphere went missing for most of the match...
I was particularly impressed with United's away support. A lot of Cass Pennant look-a-likes and chavs but boy did they make noise. And they posses a decent repertoire of football chants/songs. One of the best I've witnessed in the UK.

At the risk of appearing a 'little odd' here is a part of one of the facing bricks from Stoke City's old Victoria Ground. This shows how they used the beige coloured ones rather than the normal red and which gave the stand a much lighter look, especially as it was hemmed in down a side street of terraced houses. How it looked before demolition (my brick is one of these!) And the view now from the same corner (if positioned at the right edge of the picture above) And for a little added nostalgia here are the gates and steps leading up to the home terrace, the Boothen End Stand.

Is the site of the old Vic ground still to be developed after all this time?
I have had the pleasure of visiting both the old and new grounds. The new must be just about the coldest location for a ground in the country!

It's now fenced off (apparently it was open land before) and a big sign tells of it's redevelopment as Victoria park, retail and housing development.
