Great pictures Stuart. They bring back many memories (not that I am old enough to remember the town as it was in these pictures!)
Like you, I wasn't a true Brixham Buoy and only moved there from Paignton at the age of 10 but have always been grateful for its influence on my teenage years. Many good friends and early drinking expolits in the many pubs, mainly The Burton and Three Elms.
Still have family there but no desire to return as I don't think it has the character that I recall from those days. Maybe just rose-tinted glasses!

I was near Brixham earlier in the week on a couple of walks. Not really Brixham – more like in the parish of Kingswear in the district of the South Hams – but close enough to count. Firstly, I walked from Kingswear. Along the coast path initially to the observation lookout at Froward Point before heading inland to the Daymark and across to the car park at Coleton Camp. Then back to the coast at Scabbacombe Head and down to the beach at Scabbacombe Sands. Next steeply inland to the car park for Scabbacombe and down Woodhuish Lane to Mansands before heading up Mansands Lane and over Southdown Cross into Brixham. Made a change to sticking religiously to the coast path. And, having done all of the SW Coast Path, I always feel this section has a staggeringly remote feel given it's not too far from a built-up area. In fact, both Mansands and Scabbacombe Sands seem miles away from Torbay. I wonder how many Torquay people, for instance, ever venture there? Not having proper road access to either adds, of course, to the sense of seclusion and isolation. Another day – prior to Tuesday night’s grief actually – I did a figure-of-eight circuit from Brixham to Southdown Cross and along the green lanes of Mill Lane and Penhill Lane to Hillhead. Then along Challycroft Road to St Mary’s Bay and Berry Head before succumbing to a coffee at the Berry Head Hotel. One or two steep climbs but not too strenuous and a rewarding walk if you’re in the Brixham area. From Geograph: The DaymarkScabbacombe SandsMansands

I'm a true Brixham lad, although born in Torbay hospital I was transferred to Brixham 8 hours later.
Hated it when I lived there but miss it a bit now I've moved away

That `Mansands` sounds rather dodgey! Any good fishing at any of these locations?

Fishing can be good off Brixham Breakwater or from the quarry at Berry Head

If anyone fancies some FAC action in Torbay tonight with an old fashioned 7.30 kick off look no further. Under the Wall Park floodlights Brixham AFC v Okehampton Argyle... FAC Preliminary Rd Replay. And the winners drawn away at Buckland Athletic would you believe in the next round !

Thanks Stuart...great photos.Although I lived in St Michaels Paignton I went to Churston Ferrers GS and played rugby for Brixham while at school. Great group of people at Brixham RFC and I made a lot of close friends. Although now in my 70s I still bump into friends whenever I go back to visit.
