Who remembers watching Ian Bastow play for us in midfield? not the biggest of players by a long way, but he was always good on the ball. Was he at the club the same time young Darren Cann was playing for us? I seem to remember in one game Mr Cann got injured and taken to hospital in an ambulance? is my memory correct and if so what game did it happen in.
Below a good report from todays Herald Express on a game Ian Bastow played in over the weekend
SUBSTITUTE Ian Bastow rolled back the years to inspire Premier Division leaders Upton Athletic to a 4-0 victory over Kingskerswell & Chelston at Armada Park.
A Jamie Chamberlain strike was all that separated the two sides when former Torquay United midfielder Bastow entered the fray 20 minutes from time.
At the age of 39, he showed he still has class in abundance as he notched a hat-trick.
Bastow got his first within three minutes of being part of a double substitution that saw he and Jason Manley come on for the injured Ollie Critchlow and Steve Northcott.
The veteran played a neat one-two with another sub, Jason Wadsworth, before firing in from 15 yards.
Andrew Walker and Manley then linked up to giftwrap a close-range chance for Bastow, and he made no mistake for his second — and Upton's third — as he calmly sidefooted into the net.
Bastow saved his best until last, chipping the ball over the Kerswell goalkeeper from fully 40 yards.

Megs is quality and a good laugh! Jamie Chamberlian used to play in my Sunday League team and my five a side team, his nick name is Ragga, he`s a bloody quick little git with loads of cheek and great skill. Jason Manley is a decent player at local level but is a bit too much of a ball hog for my liking, if Upton can get him to spead the ball about then he becomes massively effective, sounds like they have a good team there! Raggas brother Lee is a very good player as well, Lee plays as a midfield play maker and sets Ragga up brilliantly, they work really well together, this I know first hand. Ragga trialled for TUFC as a goal keeper, I never understood why you would put someone so effective up front in goal!
