Last Friday evening I paid my first visit to the Allianz Arena and saw FC Augsburg beat TSV 1860 münchen by 2 goals to nil. I have to say that the Allianz Arena is the best of all the 100 or so grounds I've visited around the world. It's interesting to note the decline in attendances for this fixture: 1973 - Officially 90,000 but another 10,000 smashed their way in after an early goal was scored. 136 people were injured. This was a record attendance for the Olympic Stadium beating anything either Bayern or the German national team managed. It's also a higher gate than the Bundesliga record. 2007 - 69,000 sell-out for the first time the 2 clubs had played a competitive fixture in Munich for a long time. Augsburg took more than 30,000 to this game!!! 2008 - 57,400 2009 - 37,100 Last Friday - 29,100 including about 8,000 from Augsburg

Nice pictures Bayern Gull. It's nice to finally see the stadium lit up in Lowenbrau blue for a change. As new stadiums go it's quite nice but it's a bit far from the City Centre (11km) and it's a bit souless. The S-Bahn ride back to Marienplatz was a like being on a rollercoaster inside a sardine can!

It's interesting you thought the ground 'soulless' while I was very impressed. It could be to do with the game being one I was very involved in (following my local German team in a very important game) - not sure if you were there as a neutral? The U-Bahn (It's the U6 rather then S-Bahn that goes to Fröttmaning) in münchen is also very familiar to me as well as the painfully long S-Bahn trip to the airport so those things would have been expected for me. The U-Bahn was packed with fans of both teams when I was there with continuous clinking of beer bottles going on - mostly good natured banter.

Maybe it's because I don't like Bayern Munich very much or maybe it was a European game without beer that slightly soiled my experience but both me and my friend at the time were more impressed by Borussia Park in Moenchengladbach. As you say it all depends on the game itself sometimes. Funny seats as well. Silver triangular ones, if I remember rightly.

TSV 1860 münchen are - believe it or not - a creditor of Plymouth Argyle. £33,000 according to the document posted earlier by Jon (page 79 of 90).

Swindon Town is still the most amusing though being owed 4 pence. How the hell can you owe somebody 4 pence! Strange thing is all the Argyle board are accountants!
