Last night's groundhopping was a toss up between Harrow Borough V Wealdstone, Carshalton V Cray Wanderers or Maidenhead United V Havant and Waterlooville. I ended up choosing the short 25 minute trip from Ealing to Maidenhead's York Road. The claim to fame of York Road is that it's the oldest continuously used football stadium in the world. To be fair, most fixtures and fittings seem to back this claim up. I was one of 116 poor souls who were subjected to 90 minutes of awful football in a cold and gusty old football ground where the atmosphere only sparked into life when numerous Inter City 125s whooshed past, rattling the rickety old grandstand as they did. I used to commute past that ground twice a day for 2 years and often strained to see from the train what the ground was like. Sadly, I never got to see a game there. Incidentally, the 'Press Box' photo is exceptional - I'm not an expert in photography but I do know something about art and the composition on this particular picture is very good indeed.
