This weeks the way they were in the Herald Express shows some of the 1967 team getting ready to start training. Interesting to see we used the school field in Quinta Road back then for training. I'm sure many of you have played on the pitches there.

I'm sure many of you have played on the pitches there. This site is just brilliant at rekindling memories! I attended Homelands Technical High School as it was then called from 1963 to 1968 and these were our school playing fields. Although it would seem unbelievable now in my first year at the school we had no changing rooms at Quinta. We used to change in the open and hang our clothes in the hedge as far in as possible so that overhanging branches gave some protection from the elements. We still played games in the rain and even snow, scraping as much mud off as possible at the end of the game before putting on our clothes over our muddy bodies, and for me then having to get two buses (30 & 12) home to Newton Abbot, so that by the time I climbed in to the bath the mud had solidified!! Changing rooms had appeared by my second year at the school so young iphgull had it easy when he turned up a year after me!! Later from 1973 to 1981 I lived in Quinta Close and used to watch United training on occasions from my bedroom window, but not as impressively as that marvellous Frank O'Farrell team of the late 1960's. That really was just like watching Brazil! ;D
