I learned on Monday afternoon this week that Carol would not be coming home. The news hit me so hard as I knew it meant the fight was over and we had lost our gallant nine year battle against this cruel and evil disease that goes by the name of cancer.
I had dared to hope that things were not as bad as they seemed, but I think I knew the fight was over.
Tonight at 7.10pm she died in my arms and tonight I’m not sad but very happy all her pain and suffering has now gone. I have felt it both an honour and a privilege this week to be with her every single second of the last 48 hours, so that I could ensure she went to a better place, peacefully and pain free.
I would like to give my thanks to all the wonderful staff on the Turner Ward at Torbay Hospital, who not only allowed me to be holding Carols hand all this week, but the care and love they showed in the care of my lovely angel. Also the way they looked after me so well. Cups of coffee’s at 3am in the morning and making me midnight snacks and making me eat them.
Carol really is one of lives most beautiful people who never deserved all the pain and suffering she endured and now that pain has all gone. We held hands for nine years and did so all this week to do what needed to be done to end her suffering.
There will be plenty of days ahead to cry and learn to come to terms with the lose of the wonderful and beautiful lady known as Carol, but not tonight as at last I have been able to help her to that better place we both knew she had to go to.
Love you so much dear Carol
Dave

So sorry your angel has gone. i cannot start to know what you are feeling right now.
in the short time I knew Carol, i could see a very special and caring person. to continue caring for other people when she was probably in a worse condition than them, takes a special person
I enjoyed her company when we had our couple of meals out and chatted with her in town one day.
Please let me know if there is anything you need, mate. even though I'm far away, it's just a short hop down the motorway. don't be afraid to ask, as there are many people on here who love you and want to help and support you
take care

Dave,
Sincere and heartfelt condolences for your loss. No words alone can ever do justice to someone's pain, but you know what a community you have created here and many people will share a fraction of your feelings this morning upon waking and reading your sad news.
I hope you can surround yourself with the people around you to help you through this difficult time.
With love
Jeremy

My thoughts are with you Dave.
At least Carol will suffer no more and I am sure that she will have gained great comfort from having her soulmate by her side until the very end.
Make sure you look after YOURSELF now. You know that is what Carol would want.

Deepest condolences to you and your family Dave, until yesterday I had no idea of yours and Carols most recent battle against the evil disease. Its a natural feeling but be sure that there is nothing to reproach yourself about without doubt you did all you could to help her through her battle. It must be truly devastating for you and my thoughts are with you at this time and if I can offer any support in any way please don't hesitate and PM at any time. For one who has been so sympathetic and caring to others its the least I can offer and having lost family and close friends to cancer in recent years and months it leaves you with such a hollow and empty feeling. I know your friends on this forum can help you through the worst of this.

So sorry for your loss Dave.
You could have done no more.
I have been moved to tears on several occasions reading your posts throughout Carol's illness.
The strength, bravery and a heart of gold you've shown is an inspiration.

Dave, we are very deeply saddened to hear of your loss. You have given so much to so many people including ourselves over the years. All this support was given so unconditionally whilst you were dealing with Carols battle against her own illness.
We cannot imagine how you must be feeling at this time. Carol was such a fighter and having you by her side surely gave her the strength to fight on as long as she did. You were truly blessed to have such a wonderful lady in your life Dave and even though she is now in Heaven, she shared wonderful years with you and those memories can never be taken from you.
If there is anything that we can do; anything at all that can help you through your sadness, please just say. We are here for you as you have been for us. Take care of yourself Dave, all our love to you,
grahame, Diane, Amber and Lewis
