Never went to - nor even passed by - Claremont Road. I just remember Hendon as one of those big Amateur Cup teams who never quite featured once the amateur distinction was abolished. Solidly Isthmian Premier, Hendon would probably have spent a fair time in Conference South had that league existed prior to 2004. Generally less successful in semi-professional times than their old rivals Enfield but, of the two, the rather better-placed these days.
I recall working in William Hill in Torquay in the mid 1970s and meeting a mug punter who rejoiced by the name of "Mickey Finn". I'm sure he claimed to have played for Hendon at Wembley. I was never convinced.

Visited Vale Farm only the other week to watch Hendon v Tonbridge (Angels won 3-0).
A paltry crowd of 149... I arrived half hour before kick-off and actually thought the game had been cancelled! The burger bar was closed and only a handful of Angels supporters milling around the club shop and no players training on the pitch....
....alas, my fears, after the 60 mile drive, were unfounded as the teams came out on to the pitch and the other 148 hardy souls finally took their place in the queue for a burger and tea (yep, it finally opened 5 mins before kick-off manned by one fella who looked non-plussed at the queue in front of him...). Credit to him though, best chips I've had at this level!
Also, overheard that the turnstiles at Wembley FC are actually from the old Wembley Stadium...
Decent game played out by the two teams on a very hard (sloping) surface.
I'll be up around the area again on Saturday as the Angels travel to play-off rivals Harrow Boro...

Yeah that was the game that got postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The original match had been sponsored by a load of Birmingham City fans who were in town for the Carling Cup Final. I went to Harrow Borough earlier in the season. Not a bad ground but there was only 101 people who turned up and it was a poor game played in deathly silence!
