When Saturday Comes recently asked some bloke to conjure up 800 words on the topic of watching football at Plainmoor over the past twenty-five years to coincide with the magazine's 25th anniversary. They asked him to make the odd reference to fan culture and this is what he managed. He's pleased to say it drew critical acclaim from one urinator in the away-end loos at Shrewsbury Town recently:

........a beautifully written article, my dear Mr_Barton - from A Banda to Gulltras and all points between, I can smell the liniment again in the area of the old tunnel and hear those dulcet tones of the late Fred Jago across the Tannoy - "Oh do get orft the pitch, theres' good lads" as those lovable, Oxford-bagged, 18-hole DM booted urchins from such outposts as Sheffield, Stockport and Walsall used to stage re-enactments of the battle scenes from "Zulu" as they stormed the much lamented Mini-stand on a Saturday afternoon at half-time to the sounds of "Bringing On Back The Good Times" by The Love Affair having previously invaded the hallowed Plainmoor turf, as well as picture the sight of dear old Popeye Wills in the old Prog shop in Homelands Lane ............
........I had actually read it before anyway as I have been subscribing to WSC since early 1992, I always enjoy reading the stuff you contribute to it - bacon sandwiches, tea and medals yet again, keep up the good work.....................

I thank you, Mr_W. The questions for the pre-season preview have just arrived in my inbox including this one to get my head around: "What is your personal favourite moment of following your club over the last 25 years?"
