I know little about the performance, but this result is a real head-turner. Although they are currently bottom, I think Lincoln will be a decent team this season and Sincil Bank is never an easy place to pick up points. I'm not sure what it is like now, but the crowd and a dreadful air-raid siren used to make it horrible. This result is all the more impressive as between the energy sapping extra time on Wednesday and travelling up to Lincoln we must have spent little time on the training ground.
Our amazing run continues without conceding a league goal. Bit of a worry about Branston, but it is a sign of the strength of the squad (in defence at least) that player of the calibre of Charnock can come on.
Cracking start to the season for Benners. He must be gaining a very good reputation around the lower leagues.
Looking forward to any match reports - particularly grateful for any insight into the performance of Kee, and O'Kane when he came on.....and also for any news on Branston's injury.
Well done PB and the players. Not getting carried away at all and would still happily settle for a boring mid table season of consolidation. Six points clear of the relegation places!

i really fancied us to get a result today,i predicted 2-0 but the goalscorers wrong, but i dont care, carayol as i suspected was kept pretty quiet by our excellent defence, and as for benyon,if he continues will be going to pastures new,at a price of course. We appeared pretty comfortable for an away game.Buckle continues to prove all and sundry wrong, every good side is built on defence,at present quietly optimistic, may it long continue

Fantastic result for us today, another clean sheet, extending the record, 3 more points and top of the table. What more can you ask for.
We have also beaten 2 teams that some people believed were among the favourites to go up.
Its only 2 games but it's a great platform to build on. The players confidence will remain high and hopefully that winning mentality will continue.
Pre season I felt that 7 points from 9 would be an excellent start, now I'm starting to feel that 9 from 9 is a real possibility. Lets keep this winning habit going for as long as possible.

Good result - looking forward to the match reports.
I quite liked the focus that there was on Carayol in the build-up to the match - I don't think that he is anything to really fear compared to some of the player that we have. I don't look at the likes of Drewe Broughton and Delroy Facey as goalgetters compared to players like Zebroski and Benyon these days and was mildly confident that we could come back with something today.
I listend to Radio Lincolnshire's build-up coverage in the hope that they would put the whole game on-line (they didn't!) and the comments that we would be very hard to break down and a tough nut to crack is very pleasing. I've seen so many "soft touch" TUFC teams over the years, but I think that this team has grown considerably and I think that we can stand-up to most teams in the league - it is amazing what can happen when a team go on a run and really build-up confidence.
I'm not getting carried-away and I don't think that many supporters will - but looking at the clubs in League 2 I can't see why we can't get a very respectable position this season . I'm confident that there is going to be progression with the club (with the new stand, training facilities and youth set-up) and I feel that this will be reflected on the pitch if things remain fairly stable.

Looks like I'm first back from the game then, so a brief match report. First off I had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, it was good to see the usual crowd after the summer break and the terrace humour was flowing particularly well. Not even the juvenile 'banter' from the half human, half jacket potato crowd could put my out of my good mood. (By the way Single bye bye w**kers, w**kers bye bye to opposing fans leaving early is not big or clever and makes you look like the thick inbred prick that you are.) A special mention for the young lady singing by herself sat in front of me today, it really was like you were singing just for me. First half saw 3 of the worst headers you will ever see by Lincoln, including one from our old favourite Carayol. The Drewe Broughton miss from 4 yards needs to be seen to be believed, it almost went for a throw in. We should really have been behind and were defending pretty averagely. Then Zebs wins a free kick on the right, Nico ambles over from left back and puts in the best cross you will see all season and Benyon can't miss. One nil against the run of play. We play out the rest of the half well on top, Lincoln look a bit shell-shocked. Second half Chris Sutton makes the unusual decision to take off Carayol and replace him with no-one This was the Muzzy we know and love, hiding from the ball, miscontrolling it, ducking out of challenges - won't have done us any favours as regards the tribunal. We barely break sweat Lincoln are a spent force and Lee Mansell sits in front of the back four to give a bit of extra protection vs. Broughton who did a reasonable job in holding the ball up in the first half. Then Eunan O'Kane comes on for Billy Kee and he looks like a serious player. Beautifully disguised reverse ball in to Benyon out wide to Zebs, heavy first touch but picks out Benyon at the far post and it's 2-0. Game over. Lincoln send on Delroy Facey who obviously eats at the same restaurants as Akinfenwa but it doesn't make much difference and Torquay run down the clock effectively and look the side more likely to add more goals. Positives for me; A fit Scott Bevan - had no real saves to make but his communication and movement were superb - best game I've seen him have for us. Nico - that left foot is a thing of genius Zebs - my man of the match, helped Robbo keep Carayol quiet by offering a fantastic threat going forward. Benyon - Good headers for a couple of goals, but is prone to make the wrong decision - shoots when an obvious pass is on and vice versa. Nobody had a bad game, I'm quite impressed.

Well. What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I've never seen us lose at Sincil Bank and that record is still intact. I brought two Dutch friends from Utrecht today to the game as an introduction to the way a Saturday afternoon should be spent. I like Sincil Bank. It's setting in the middle of rows of terraced houses and canals with the massive Cathedral on the hillside is very picturesque. I parked in Scorer Street again like last season. 10 minutes before kick off!
After the first 30 mins it wasn't looking likely and Lincoln should have been 1 or 2 up by then. But the headers weren't even close and we survived until Arnold Muhren swept in a fantastic ball which found Benyon's eager forehead and one nil up we went. Fully deserved in my opinion. We were much the better side........erm......errrr!
In the second half it was men against boys. Mansell dropped back a little to protect the centre halves. Carayol went AWOL. He swapped boots at half time. A poor decision young Mustapha! The whole team looked very solid. The Wroe-Mansell, Branston-Ellis Phalanx looks very good indeed. Robertson and Zebroski are looking strong on the left right flank. Billy Kee holds the ball up quite well and gives centre halves a tough time, Benyon is tireless as ever and O'Kane adds something special in his new position in the hole. He has quick feet, passing ability in abundance and the gift of vision. Daniesta played pretty well. The jury's still out on him but I think he's improving. It's great to see Wayne Carlisle back in a Torquay shirt again.
I thought the "Going up, going up, going up" song was quite funny. Only the 44 games to go.

Was only able to listen to the game on Radio Devon, but would I be right in thinking we are beginning to win matches without being at our best? I

Sorry - obviously hit the wrong button mid-post! Iwas going on to say I thought we often played well last season without getting a result; it would be good to think either we are getting better luck this season or that we are learning not to lose. Be interested to hear from those 300? of you able to get there.

Just under 200 Torquay United fans watched on as our team beat Lincoln by two goals to nil and that now makes ten league games where we have not conceded a goal. Brilliant start to the season and we have carried on from where we left off last season. Not trying to be picky but isn't it 9 games without conceding? Seven at the end of last season and two now. Can't see how anybody wiill score against us now anyway!

It`s nine! Last seven of last season plus two this season, it`s ten games unbeaten but we did concede one goal off Bevans leg prior to the nine games without conceding. I think!

Yep - ten unbeaten, nine without conceding. The game we conceded that we won 2-1 was against Shrewsbury on 3 April.

Anyone know when we last went 10 games unbeaten? I don't remember that sort of run in the last few seasons.

Anyone know when we last went 10 games unbeaten? I don't remember that sort of run in the last few seasons. Eleven league games 24/2/09 to 6/4/09. Earlier that season we set the club all-time all-competitions record of seventeen games (13 league plus four cup) 7/9/08 to 29/11/08. You can find some nutter giving chapter and verse on previous unbeaten runs here: www.torquayfansforum.com/index.cgi?board=tufchistory&action=display&thread=1943

You raise a good point Valgull. Yesterday had we been down 2-3 at half time after the first half, that would have been a fairly good reflection of dominance. Lincoln missed several clear opportunities that we would have expected our strikers to have buried - but they didn't. But, hey, that's football. And, of course, what would have happened if they had scored no-one can ever know. The reality was that we played some pretty good football at times and found the net twice. Twice more than they did. And, likewise it could have been more. So, yes, in some ways you could say that luck favoured us or, alternatively, you could say that their players should have been more clinical with their finishing. Ours were, so we got the points. For those wanting to have a go at Muzzie, i felt he had quite a good first half with several effective bits of distribution. Second half was a different game anyway and he was not quite so effective - as was true of several players. When a player leaves us they're gone - little point in trying to find some false justification for wanting rid of them or mocking them, which is what some posters seem keen on doing. Our squad is looking quite reasonable so far although the middle was noticably stronger when O'Kane replaced Kee - as would be expected. Had been initially encouraged by Billy, then thought his performance against Reading was linked to their, theoretically, stronger defence, so had expected a lot from him yesterday. Unfortunately, for me anyway, he didn't deliver, so am looking forward to the return of Grits. I'm sure Billy will come up with the goods but not done it yet. Bevs is looking confident and secure and the back four are generally clearing their lines quite effectively. Midfield would benefit from more bite and more controlled disribution at times. But, hey, this is Torquay, our team and we're winning!! A time for celebration. Only 44 more points needed!! Overall, a good afternoon out although it took ages to find a hostelry that did both food and proper beer - ended up in Wetherspoons! Treated cordially wherever we went - as we would hope visiting fans should be treated on their trip to Plainmoor. A long drive abck but easier with the 3 points!
