I might as well now say what I feel I want to say, as another thread has ended up being ruined on what is meant to be the quality forum.I had such a lovely Saturday afternoon watching my Ant start yet another season playing football as I know they are now running out and was it really 29 years ago he played in his first ever game. I listened to the last ten minutes of our game on the way home and how nail biting that was. Dave Thomas summed up the match and while it sounded we were not at our very best, we got the job done and that really was all that was important.
I got in doors and got the PC fired up and when I checked the match day thread I thought I had logged into the wrong forum but then thought well we have been lucky so far our match day threads had not been turned into one or two word posts.
I started feeling much happier when the match reports started coming in as our match day thread then got back to the standard they always are on here and I was even more pleased to see the first mach report was made by someone who never normally posts on here. I read the report and felt it reflected the views on the game that DT held...
So warwickgull was soon picked up because he had said Benyon looked uninterested to him and the two people we went to the game with and he came back and said
All im saying is between 2 neautrals and myself the general opinion was Benyon spent to much of the match wondering around looking down on his luck! Maybe (not interested) was the wrong and a harsh description, but the normal Benyon who chases every last cause was certainly not on display for long periods today!I think that was a very fair reply and I also feel his report was not negative and had many things in it where he gave praise where he felt it was due, but that was not good enough for some on here and it maybe more to do about the fact warwickgull is not a regular member on the TFF than anything he really had to say in his report.
After reading warwickgulls report and then others that have been made on the forum then merse has every right as this is a discussion forum to ask warwick if he felt we had got it wrong about how well Benyon played as it was not the views shared by others who were at the match. But no merse just being merse has to do what seem to give him the most pleasure in his life, post something he knows will just upset the poster.
“so for a start to go wittering on about player disinterest and the performance not being of top standard is just what you hear from people who have little experience of taking part in ultra competitive sport where the margins between the two side's ability, and therefore between winning and losing; are wafer thin at the best of times”Yes merse may well be right in what he says but he posted it knowing full well the poster would see it as Merse just saying he was not knowledgeable enough about the game to be able to give his views on it. As expected merse then wants to let us know it’s not his fault if others do not have a thick skin like he does, well like he likes to make you all think he has.
“people should refrain from marking players of whom they know little of their instructed role in a game, their state of fitness or their particular state of mind going into a game”.How the hell would any fan watching a game know any of that and anyway who the hell cares what any fan marks down on a bit of paper his rating score for the players, at the end of the day it’s just his opinion and nothing more. Why has it seemed more like a hungry pack of dogs after the taste of blood just because some one who watched the game posted his honest views on how he saw the game.
Look at this from my point of view, I put so much time and effort into trying to make this a great forum where good healthy debate takes place, I do all I can to try and get the message across that the TFF is all about being a good friendly community and one where we can have different opinions and we won’t be belittled or have those opinions rubbished just because others may not agree with them. I work hard to encourage more members to post on here, the more views we have from different members the richer the forum will be and it pisses me off no end when I see someone being brave enough to make their first post only for them to end up wishing they never did due to the way some feel its OK to pick the post to pieces and make the poster feel he does not have a clue what he is on about.
Merse wants us to believe it’s only because the posts are made by him and not what he says in his posts are the problem, really Merse? If you believe that then you to use a term you love to use on here, you are far more disillusional than I would have ever believed.
Sorry but if a poll was ever run asking who has upset the most people who has used a TUFC forum you would win it hands down, if a poll was run asking who has been responsible for most people leaving or stopping posting on a TUFC forum you would win that one as well.
When you make those great interesting factual posts people really enjoy reading them, but I have lost count of the members who has said to me they were reading one of your posts and enjoying it and then you went and ruined it all by having to put that dig in or remark you knew full well would upset someone.
I was shocked on the day I talked with you to learn how much it does concern you how people perceive you, you may claim you are so thick skinned on here but that really is not the case as I discovered. You are perceived the way you are because of the way you post and not anything else.
Look at the great other knowledgeable posters we have on here like Barton Downs, Jon and so many others, how do others perceive them? Well I can tell you they are liked and respected and their views valued simply because they can post and never feel the need to put in their posts the sorts of things you think are just fine and everyone else should just put up with and lump it.
How many really good threads on here have ended up only fit for the recycle bin because you just could not help yourself and a war has then broken out on that thread? Far too many is the answer and once again look at it from my point of view as someone who is trying to create something special that others in years to come will want to read and not give up on the first page as so called adults just resorted to acting like children.
If you want quality then you have to have standards, if you want to enjoy good sensible healthy adult debate then you need to respect others views and opinions and even if you think they are talking out of their ass, tell them so in a polite and respectful way that won’t cause any offence.
Why is it that some feel its just fine to speak to others on a forum in a way they would never speak if they were standing face to face with them? I firmly believe you should always treat others and talk with others the same way you want others to treat you, if you do that then you may just find you will get on so much better with other people and they then won’t perceive you as someone who you really aren’t.
Rant over and just like being a fan of TUFC is a rollercoaster of a ride, trying to run a forum is far far worse than that as it goes from being a great place one day to a place I almost feel I wish I had never bothered to set up when I see as it is today.
