The first question that springs to mind is will this match even be on? A quick check of the Met Office Website suggests a daytime temperature of 5 C and no frost on Friday night and possibly no frost on Thursday night (1 C). Leaving aside the debate on whether this will be enough to defrost the ground, I understand that the pitch is covered with snow and maybe this will be enough to provide a protective layer. Otherwise, it is a long way to go just to build a snowman. Chesterfield were of course, the first team that we played upon regaining our league statue back on that glorious day at Plainmoor with a home win. A lot of water under the bridge since then and Chesterfield are now riding high although they have lost their last two games, away against Burton in the FA Cup (went down to them with the same score in the league a fortnight prior to this) and at home to Oxford in the league. Their main attacking threat seems to stem from Craig Davies (14 goals) and Jack Lester (6 goals). Danny Whitaker in midfield has 12 goals but some of these are from the penalty spot. With seven wins and twenty nine goals from ten games at home in the league, Chesterfield will be hoping to get back to winning ways and will be the sternest of tests. For this reason, I would expect Buckle to stick to the tried and tested formation of 4-5-1 / 4-4-1 with O'Kane in the forward midfield position. With no matches for two weeks, hopefully Bucks will be able to play his strongest side. With no test match this weekend, it would be good to talk about some football.

I live an hour and a bit from Chesterfield. Yesterday when I got up the temperature was minus 14. Today when I got up the temperature was minus 6 and it was snowing! The weather will have to improve rapidly for the game to be on!
Let's hope Chesterfield make an early call on this one like we did last week. Save our players travelling at the very least! There can be nothing worse than travelling all that way and finding the bloody match is off!

I somehow think Gritts will be back at Chesterfield by the time we get to play this game Aussie!
Even if the sun melts the snow and thaws the pitch (cant see it happening) wouldn't league regulations prevent a loanee playing against his parent club, or is that jusy Premiershi£? I recall Loram turing-out for Stockport against us when we won back in '92 on the way to relegation. Have their been any players that we've loaned to other clubs appear against us since then (I look to Jon and Barton on this!!!)?

Dot com confirmation that further to the pitch inspection, the game is on! Also confirmed on the Chesterfield site now. A number of safety issues have still to be resolved but the club is confident of achieving this but the main thing is that the pitch is playable!

I wonder why their match is on, looking at the condition of the pitch; and our wasn't! Maybe, they have better ground staff! Obviously you have had a walk across the Chesterfield pitch this morning and also had a walk across the Plainmoor pitch last weekend so you are in a good position to make a comparison!

It does sometimes but not this time, tell ya what, I`ll laugh my b0llocks off if the Ref calls the game off at 3:00 p.m tommorow because the pitch is water logged. Fair play to good work done up there, different circumstances to here though, it would have done my head in had we gone two weeks without a footy fix!

I thought I'd toss a niggle grenade into the thread.
