Yes thats an appalling gate. I can only think that it was a reaction to the Crawley game whereby people anticipated queuing for about three hours. It certainly disuaded me from making the journey down. Very low gate just the same though.
Well Buckles gung ho formation won us the day due to the excellent peformance of Zebs and Tomlin up front.
However I still think the tie is far from over. Lathrope was absolutely awful however O'Kane was also excellent.
At one stage Shrewsbury looked like they were going to cave in, however 2-0 is a superb scoreline and anyone would have taken that before the game.
Pressure is now all on them and in truth their defence looked bloody awful .
Beavis continues to look jittery again and almost gifted them a goal.
The next goal is really crucial - if we get it we are all but there.

great game great night,tomlin awesome,so calm and collected was bucks after game,gud to see mr hargreaves on sky,am so proud as always,we showed what we are made of,and more to come,enjoy the night people...simon

Lathrope awful? Very harsh there Terry.
Thought he and Eunan kept Wroe extremely quiet, in fact he was one of the worst players on the park and I am very glad he was wearing blue tonight and not Torquay yellow.
Commentators said Lathrope had been quiet, but I thought he was very effective in the job he was clearly asked to do - keep Shrewsbury's engine room out of the game. He did that very well and was always harrying Wroe and Taylor. Not a world beater by any means but awful...no way. I get the feeling you just don't like him - must be a long list of those!

I guess those who couldn't attend were glued to the tv screen so I wont go into to much detail about the game and my guess is the fact that it was being televised dissuaded many supporters from both sides. Having said that the popside was packed as was most of the ground though it looked as if Shrewsbury hadn't sold their allocation with plenty of room for more in the away end.
Thoroughly deserved the win and it should and could have been four or five and if it had the Shrews would have had little to complain about. How refreshing to see a referee let the game flow and take a back seat and he didn't brandish a card once. Two great goals won it, well the always are great when they come from your own, but both as a result of good sharp and incisive interplay and some fine finishing from Zebs and Eunan who had a great game today and looks to be back to hos best just at the right time. Tomlin for me was a revelation and was a constant thorn in he Shrews back line. Mobile, always asking for the ball with a great first touch and turn and complements Zebs brilliantly. Billy Kee was the only disappointment for me played out wide again but then its the only way Buckle can accommodate him and he is a more physical presence than young Oastler. You cant doubt his commitment though and he ran his socks off for the cause as did everyone tonight. How we didn't end up with a three or four goal cushion is beyond some outstanding saves from their keeper kept them in the tie in the second half and with Branno and Robertson in commanding form the opposition hardly had a sniff other than a near disaster when Bevs miskicked a back pass into the path of one of their forwards which very nearly resulted in a goal, one of the only blots on some tremendous early evening entertainment at Plainmoor though we all know that its only half time and still in the melting pot.
As I left I said goodbye to the sad old grandstand that has been in my view every week or two during the football season for the last forty four years sad in some ways but long overdue and our compact and noisy little ground played its part tonight so I hope that character remains intact..

Great atmosphere ... wonderful support .....superb football from our lads  Watched the FA Cup Final in the Gulls Nest with some great company apart from the old fat bloke who sat next to me in the second half and proceeded to talk a load of crap ... you know the type "Bleddy this.... bleddy that" Their are two types of peeps in life .... Radiators and Drains and this guy was a drain !! Did anyone spot the lovely blond vision in the floral dress who was on the pitch during the Kick the Ball at The Cow Game before KO ? Said hello to her earlier when I was in Reception and also saw her in Gulls Nest ... got a feeling she may have something to do with Langage Farm Ice Cream .... who sponsor the Kick the Ball at The Cow Game She is lovely x x  Any way job done at Plainmoor today .... and now looking forward to Friday night Come On You Yellows PS ........ Great water spraying from Aussie at half time ........ Fabulous even sprayage ! Take a Bow Son  |

A commanding performance and a fully deserved lead of 2-0. I think Shrewsbury were a little fortunate to lose just 2-0 and 3-0 would have been a truer scoreline. Still this is a healthy first leg score for Torquay and Shrewsbury looked a well beaten side. Sponsors MOM deservedly going to Tomlin, crowd 4,130. I did not catch how many were from Shrewsbury I believe there were around 600? It was another decent atmosphere at Plainmoor that looked pretty full. Shrewsbury's fans went very quiet in the second half as Gulls fans were in jubilant mood.
The game was pretty even until Torquay took the lead. Shrewsbury were pretty impressive in their build up play but when they had any sort of opening their shots were off target. Kee had a decent chance with a header. The best bit of quality was a great mazy run by Robinson who slipped the ball through for Zebroski but a defender just poked the ball away to safety. Shortly after Torquay took the lead after Tomlin on the right pulled the ball back for Zebroski to turn and finish with a powerful low shot from close range. This really lifted Torquay and for the rest of the match the Gulls were the better team playing with confidence. Shrewsbury's best chance came from a Bevan mis-kick from a Mansell backpass. The ball got stuck in his feet and looped into the air. Shrewsbury's resultant shot went just over with Bevan and defenders scrambling to cover. It was quite comical to watch! On the stroke of half-time O'Kane saw an opening from outside the box into the corner of the goal low down that left the keeper struggling to get across to cover in time. Plainmoor erupted and the half-time whistle blew shortly afterwards.
Torquay had some decent pressure and chances in the second half. There were a couple of decent saves from their keeper including a rasping free-kick from Nicholson. Branston headed just over from a corner. Tomlin had a shot cleared off the line. Down the other end Shrewsbury had some spells of good possession but lacked ideas in the final third. Torquay coped quite comfortably and Branston was his usual commanding self. After 3 minutes of stoppage time the final whistle went and advantage Torquay. We do enjoy playing Shrewsbury and they looked a beaten side this evening, but it's only half-time.
As for the players Tomlin and Zebroski were outstanding up front and were a constant menance. I'm not convinced about playing Kee on the right wing but he got stuck in. Robinson was a threat with his mazy runs, it was just a shame his finishing was not on target. but he gave Shrewsbury plenty to think about. Too many of Lathrope's passes went astray for my liking and we do badly miss Stanley in central midfield. At least O'Kane in central midfield provides a threat going forward. Torquay's defence was excellent and Bevan, apart from THAT kick, handled well everything that came at him.
So our season keeps rolling on and us Gulls fans are enjoying the ride. And there's every chance we will need a ride to Old Trafford! On tonight's performance Torquay's in a commanding position and I feel also have the psychological edge over Shrewsbury.

Well well, the players gave a great account of themselves on Sky and no doubt will be absolutely buzzing after that. If we had taken the game to Crawley like that we would already have played at Old Trafford once this season!
Did I hear Turner say words to the effect of "we can play a whole lot better than that but I'm not sure that Torquay can"? Well, I think we can play better than that - and I think we will need to be absolutely 100% on our game to get through next week. It will certainly be a different sort of a game - but I think that with Tomlin and Zebs we can get at least a goal and that would make it difficult for Shrewsbury, although I think that they will be a totally different proposition next week.
To be honest, I felt that we could have targetted Grandison in the second half a bit more considering we were all over him in the first. Like Capitalgull I thought Lathrope did his job well - he tracked-back, marked well and helped break-up the Shrewsbury play and although we all know that Wroe is utterly, utterly s*** (and I never rated him) he did a job on both Shrewsbury midfielders and allowed O'Kane to do what he does best.
I would have been delighted with a 2 goal lead before the game but I thought that we were worth more than that and I think Shrewsbury will think that they got away with it and it will no doubt give them a feeling that they have a chance next week.
*EDIT* Poor crowd numbers but great atmosphere generated by the home fans. I would be surprised if we take less than 600 to Shrewbury for the return leg and would be astonished if we don't raise the roof of the Greenhaus ground.

Turner is a prize plum  His handling of the Robinson situation was laughable......and now his great quote tonight. "We can play a lot better than that.....not sure Torquay can" How about 2 months ago Graham......when we rammed 5 up your jacksie ;D |

Lets face facts..before the match and indeed after the display at Rotherham a 2-0 win would have been grabbed with both hands. But I was like others somewhat shocked to hear Turner say we can not play better than that, arrogant t??t(get a hair cut as well), its that comment alone which i feel will ignite our lads. Oh my god we are so close to Old trafford its unreal. Nice to see Branston do a high five with that older female supporter at the end, he was bloody superb tonight, it reassured me of his desire for the club . My only concearn is bevan, he has made howlers recently at Burton, Rotherham and lets be honest today, how they missed that miss kick i do not know and that would have the changed the game completely...but hey it didnt. Come on you yellows!!!

One other note with regards too tonights attendance had Shrewsbury filled their allocation it would have been a capacity attendance(allowing for SKYS scaffolding). So shame on them, as I am convinced we will sell ours at their ground if Rotherham is anything to go by, but in hindsight they probably feared the worst prior to the match and stayed away.

Given the circumstances this was a great performance & result. Like many others would happily have taken 2-0, but hope we have not left the door open for them.
Shrews were awful and but for a little more composed finishing would have been dead & buried. But then thats why the players are in L2, so you can`t be too critical.
This was a most untorquay like TV performance. Never at any time did I get the usual feeling that we were going to concede.
Still, nothing won yet and won`t get too carried away until we are two up with 2 mins to go, then I may just think we have half a chance.
don`t like to benefit from others misfortune but the loss of their skipper certainly helped us.

A great performance which would have been nice to have given the team a big thanks at the end but spoilt by the berks and half-wits who ran on to the pitch again.
