I can't image that it is unheard of to overturn a 2-0 first leg loss in the play-offs - I can recall Yeovil doing it at Nottingham Forest (and I have the memory of a sieve!). I would be happy for one of our resident statisticians to review all the modern play-off results to give me a little more confidence that it would be very unlikely for us to capitulate next week!!! It's been done twice in League one playoffs - Yeovil, as you say, and Bradford in 1996 but never in the Championship, and only by Preston against us in League Two. But we're Torquay, so I wouldn't count any chickens just yet.

our away form is pretty good this season,we will wait to catch them on the break up there,we arent through yet of course, and footy can be cruel, but what more motivation do we need than turners post match comments? PB will use turners words to gee us up.Tin hat job on friday, unless shrewsbury decide not to turn up again,in which case a 1-0 win for us.But as many of us have said so often on here, the guys will probably keep us on a knife edge until the end of the game.It is now our game to lose, not shrewsburys to win,i fancy robinson to play a major role on friday for us,he is due a goal,it wouldnt surprise me if he popped up with one up there, just to rub their noses in it a bit more

I thought that the ref was excellent yesterday and I thought that he dealt with the ongoing battle between the ginger adversaries very well. There was the odd decision that was met with howls of derision but overall I thought he was great. A decent ref shouldn't be the centre of the match - he certainly wasn't.
When do we find-out who the ref is for Friday?
It might be the only time in the basement play-off. It probably doesn't happen very often though.
Off of the top of my head, our play-off first legs are: 2-1 home win v Scunthorpe (drew away leg 1-1) 2-0 home win v Burnley (lost away leg 1-0) 2-0 home win v Preston (lost away leg 4-1) 3-1 away win v Scarborough (won second leg 4-1) 2-1 away win v Exeter (blocked it out of my mind!) 2-0 home win v Histon (lost 1-0)
To win all of our seven first legs in the play-off semi finals is pretty incredible. All of those second legs barring the pounding of Scarborough have been epic struggles one way or another - Of course, we've gone-on to get promoted in just two of the play-offs - although maybe that isn't a bad record overall.
Indeed Stargull, past performances are no guide to future results, values of emotional investment may go down as well as up!

Must admit that I wasnt expecting that performace especially after are poor one last week ,we definitely started as second favourites last night. Now though we will be favourites to go through and I wonder if that will have a phsychlogical affect on both sets of players. Whatever , my expectations have been well and truly surpassed and whatever positive happens it will just be a huge bonus. Thsi tie is still well in the balance, its only "half time" and Shrewsbury are sure to throw the everything at us including the kitchen sink. It may work in our favour, it may not but they are bound to leave themselves open at times as they have to score three without reply to go through and they are quite capable of that with their front line. We did have a very good ref last night and as somebody said other oficials may have read one or two challenges differently. Its a clean slate on Friday and we will have to perform at or near the top of our form to progress but in the back of their minds will always be the fact that in three games we have scored eight against them with only one in reply this season, a stark fact in itself. Some mixed reactions from a Shrews forum. blueandamber.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=73157

The did have good game, but I had some right moaning gits behind me and if they weren't moaning they were talking to their partners about shopping fur Christ sake give me strength!!! Great positive from Torquay I can't wait for the second leg I'm going with the Standard posse.

Won £110 on correctly guessing a 2-0 win so I was rather pleased that Tomlin shot was cleared off the line even though it would have probably won us the tie. Oh well if we finish the job on Friday those winnings will pay for me to go up to Manchester if I can juggle it with exams.

Whacked a tenner on a 2-0 score predictor. Tbf the only reason I had the money was because we got our student loan a couple weeks ago. Give it 6 weeks or so and I'll be skint again

Make of this what you will.
A couple of 'tweets' from Jake Robinsons twitter;
CJsalopian45, in reply to Jake asking him if he is going on Friday, says "Hopefully wont be your last game at the meadow"
Jake replies "I would like to think not, up to GT though. Think I will get much abuse?"
0912 says "u will get abuse if u keep trying to score. Hope u will come celebrate with us after we win on Friday"
Jake says "maybe i wasn't scoring on purpose"
If you assume the second bit was said tongue in cheek (giving him the benefit of the doubt) its still a STUPID thing to say.
Regarding the first bit, and what he has been constantly tweeting ever since he has been here, it suggests that he really does see himself going back to Shrewsbury, and to be honest after we beat them on Friday I won't be shedding any tears if he does go back.
I don't understand his logic, surely with a 2 goal advantage to us he would be looking to distance himself from Shrewsbury, not us.
It is obvious, from his twitter, that he is not committed to us. On 7th May he also tweeted "I wish I shared your confidence that I will be back playing for Shrewsbury". There are countless other examples of him stating how much he wants to go back.
Maybe I shouldn't read so much into what he says on Twitter, but why say these things if you don't meant it??
I suppose the question I have is when the chips are really down on Friday is he really going to give his all for us, when at the back front of his mind he is really wishing he was playing for the opposition.
I also wonder what Paul Buckle would make of it??

I also wonder what Paul Buckle would make of it?? I understand that he is well known for his tweeting. Of course what you need to take into consideration is that he is in an awkward situation playing against his own club through no fault of his own. With an imminent trip away to the New Meadow I would imagine that he has to tread very carefully talking/tweeting to Shrewsbury fans or he will become a judas type figure very quickly. I seem to get the impression that neither club have commenced discussions with him about his future and maybe finds himself in the paradoxical situation of having to play well against them to justify a new contract and not trying could see him losing interest from both parties. IMO the best course he can take is to be 100% professional and what will be will be....

With Jake scoring twice against them in March and yesterday also providing the assist for the second goal, it may well transpire that the Shrewsbury deadline day transfer error will have a more telling effect on their campaign than it did to ours...

I don't buy any of this conspiracy theory surrounding Jake. He's a pro footballer. If for one second any manager in his past, present or future thought he wasn't he would never get another contract anywhere in football. So I fully expect him to step up if it goes to penalties and blast it home without hesitation. Or preferably smack in another brace during normal time. Odd that of the 9 goals scored in our games against Shrews, they've all been scored by Gulls players. While I'm sure Buckle will not allow any complacency F8 A1 in the 3 games is pretty comprehensive.
