I didn't watch it but it was all over Twitter last night. Sad that such great names (and Peter Reid) would be implicated in such dealings but I guess it's just not surprising any more

I hadn't put two and two together and twigged the real reason why Saint Peter is hanging around at Home Park. It's obvious when you think about it - and of course the two Peter Rs were together at Leeds. It's good to see Argyle fans doing something positive in trying to prove that there is an alternative - although I can understand those who feel it is a dangerous game.

It's obvious when you think about it - and of course the two Peter Rs were together at Leeds. Perhaps you’ve twigged Peter Reid’s real reason for remaining at Argyle; perhaps you haven’t. But, as you point out, there is the Ridsdale link at Leeds and Reidy just happens to be one of those many ex-Thailand national team managers. Then you’ve got Robbie Fowler being placed in a position where he had the choice between playing in Thailand and signing for the Argyle.... I could get carried away. It’s all beyond me but I sense this is an area where having a nose for a conspiracy theory might just lead you in the right direction. I half-watched the Dispatches programme and I was struck by the Football League’s admission that they don’t have the resources to track the “owners of the owners of the owners”. In a way this is hardly a surprise because the Football League, necessarily, is a pretty modest organisation that will struggle to unravel arrangements which are deliberately labyrinthine. And that, of course, is a weakness that is waiting to be exploited and perhaps a reason for targeting clubs outside of the Premier League. Indeed, today’s Guardian asks if the Football League could tag on to the Premier League’s use of corporate intelligence consultancies to investigate who is behind what.

It's obvious when you think about it - and of course the two Peter Rs were together at Leeds. On the topic of “The Riddler” – in court in Cardiff last week on fraud charges regarding a season ticket deal: www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2011/07/22/peter-ridsdale-appears-in-court-on-fraud-charges-over-cardiff-city-golden-ticket-scheme-91466-29102756/ - I’ve just finished reading a book about Leeds United which reminded me that Leeds were £103 million in debt when he finally left the club. Yet another book about Leeds United, you may ask, considering they’ve been all the rage since The Damned United. This one is Promised Land by Anthony Clavane and, should you be seeking a book that concentrates on footballing affairs, you’ll probably be disappointed. But if you’re looking for rather more – such as linking the club’s history to that of the city, its’ Jewish community and its’ cultural products– you’ll love this book (even though it’s a little repetitive in parts). That means being prepared for Alan Bennett getting more references than Dennis Wise (heaven forbid!). Recommended.
