A great double century from Kevin Pieterson against India yesterday! I read that a two test win would elevate us to the number one ranking in the world, not impossible in English conditions. I can't remember England doing that - it was always the West Indies when I was a lad who were then superseded by the Aussies. Anyone else rate our chances?

A good bowling performance from England yesterday, particularly from Broad has put England in a good position where they should not lose and hopefully another good day could see them into a winning position.

This is really shaping up to be a great series. After the collapse of England yesterday in swing friendly conditions, England managed to peg India to just a 67 run lead with a Broad hat trick including a spell of five wickets for no run sparking a collapse.
This game could be over tomorrow but hopefully will go to the fourth day......

Who said it was swing friendly? Well, it was cloudy there on Friday and Agnew spoke about Kumar swinging the ball both ways. Was listening to it on the radio yesterday and they were bathed in lovely sunshine and a dry crisp day, no swing at all according to the commo-team hence the use of spinners!

Are we at cross purposes? No swing yesterday but the ball was swinging on Friday is my understanding.

Our we at cross purposes? No swing yesterday but the ball was swinging on Friday is my understanding. To different days with different weather, one overcast one sunny, thus swing then no swing!

Totally agree! Do you reckon that England will get that number 1 spot and how will you feel about that if we do? Also, how does it compare to the ashes?

It`s about bl00dy time you lot pulled ya` collective finger out and did the business in this sport, `why` I hear you ask? Because it will make the next Ashes series even better, provided us Aussies pull out our collective finger as well! England as No.1 does not sit well with me as I`m not used to the idea at all, oh and just quietly "WELL DONE"!

England as No.1 does not sit well with me as I`m not used to the idea at all, oh and just quietly "WELL DONE"! A bit like today then. You can never write off the magnificent Indian batting line up but I suspect that we are on the verge of going 2-0 up in this series. A rather strange incident occured today when on the last ball before tea, a diving fielder look to all the world like he had conceded four runs and after running three, Bell and Morgan grounded their bats and walked back towards the Pavilion. However, the ball was then returned and Bell was run out! The Indian captain confirmed he had appealed and a bemused Bell was given out. However, with the ground in uproar, the Indians were asked to reconsider and the appeal was withdrawn and Bell who thought he was in at tea, then out suddenly found himself in again to resume after the interval! So, a good example of sporting behaviour and I was trying to think of the football equivalent. I think I recalled a case where a side, returning the ball after an injury inadvertedly scored or was it where, or a similar instance where the forward went and scored while everyone was waiting for him to pass it back. The goal stood but on kick off, the other side then stood to one side and let the team score to thus gain parity! Can anyone recall these happenings or think of a similar example of good sporting behaviour?

Can anyone recall these happenings or think of a similar example of good sporting behaviour? It made me think immediately of the Greig / Kallicharran incident and was surprised that nobody mentioned that one. Then I realised that it happened thirty seven and a half years ago! If someone then had dredged up an incident from the summer of 1936 back then, I would have been shocked that anyone was still alive who could remember that far back! www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/144678.html

If someone then had dredged up an incident from the summer of 1936 back then, I would have been shocked that anyone was still alive who could remember that far back! Indeed. We've all done the maths on that type of thing. My equivalent, being a few years older than yourself and having sporting memories spread over forty-five years (eg 1966 World Cup Final almost to the day), is even more painful to contemplate. A ten-year-old in 1966 listening to a bloke in his mid-fifties' going on about the White Horse Cup Final? No, that was too recent...

So, the third test could be the one that see us top the world rankings. On a half decent pitch, India are 100-6 as I write so already, they have a battle to save this test.
