You often hear oldies moaning about how today's players behave. Cristiano Ronaldo wrote off his Ferrari a few years ago and there was a load of pontificating about how "it wouldn't have happened in my day". In the good old days, you wouldn't find players racing around in expensively purchased vehicles. You wouldn't find players treating themselves to summer holidays in exotic locations. You wouldn't find them staying out to all hours - they would have been at home with a cup of cocoa by half past nine. You wouldn't find them hanging around the casualty department after getting into scrapes. Or would you? I take you back to the summer of 1909. Newcastle United had just won their third league title in five years. It seems as if so much money was sloshing around that Mr Willis could treat himself to a stay on the English Riviera - within a stone's throw of Plainmoor at Warberry Road. It also appears that he had splashed out on a bicycle. And it appears that he was out on the tiles between half past nine and ten o'clock at night. I bet the old boys of the day had a field day shaking their heads at this shocking behavior.
