Charlie Pratt - a soccer player who went over to the dark side.
Why would anyone do that?
He played for us at centre-half in our first season 1921-22 and then became our trainer. We would travel to Southern League games with just eleven men, so Charlie had the odd run out as an emergency winger when a player had to drop out.

Result: 2-1 (Evans,Stubbs). Attendance: 3820. A memorable win for our mid-table team against top of the table Tranmere Rovers with local boy John Evans scoring on his debut. He went on to make 6 or 7 appearances over the next couple of seasons and then faded out of pro football becoming better known as a top international bowler. Another local lad around at the same time who used to get on the score sheet a bit was Jeff Tolchard from the fizzy drinks family, but he also seemed to slip away after 4 goals in 10 games. I think he had another sporting interest which he was better known for, was it cricket?
