It's almost a tribute to Timbo's efforts that we've now seen so many of his programmes that it's a challenge to say anything fresh about a publication of over sixty years ago. Such is this Torquay v Ipswich programme from March 1951.
Yet it's all there from the rather modernist front cover through to "club chatter", supporters' club notes and the advert for the British Railways excursion to Bristol City. And, of the other adverts, it's not really so long since I called at the modern version of the Tudor Cafe in St Marychurch before the game.
So perhaps any observation should relate to the progress of our visitors that day. Ipswich had only been in the Football League since 1938. Come 1962 and they would be champions of England. In 1957 the blighters would loom large in our pathway. All to do with Alf of course.
Ah yes, a final thought for the knockers: "Come and see for yourselves, come to jeer, stay to cheer".
One would hope so anyway.
