Michael Griffiths of Worcester was to play for Torquay United not too long afterwards.
Look carefully at Worcester's FA Cup record and you'll see that Argyle make something of a habit of losing to non-league sides from Worcestershire.

I wasn’t at the game but was relieved when we came away with a win from a tricky visit to a decent Southern League side. By all accounts, Torquay’s back three had their hands full coping with Worcester’s striker Michael Griffiths. Wes Saunders kept an eye on him and ended up signing him nearly a year later. That was the season Torquay nearly made the playoffs and Griffiths nearly established himself as a first team regular. Unfortunately for him Tony Bedeau had by far his best ever season and he and Eifion Williams were usually at the head of the queue for two striking places, with Griffiths next ahead of injury-prone O’Neil Donaldson, the mercurial Jean-Pierre Simb and the tall youngster Tom Stocco. This game was played at Worcester ‘s historic St George’s Lane ground which was lost to property developers in 2013 - a blow from which the club has still not recovered. |

I was at the game and I was staggered when we signed Griffiths. He looked like and played like the Play Away presenter Derek Griffiths and never really looked that good for us in my view. But Wes Saunders really rather over-achieved that season and should never have been given the manager's job and it ended exactly how many feared.
