I thought I would put this comment on a separate post as it is likely to upset quite a few on here and not receive much support, but hey ho its an opinion.
The match sponsors must have really tucked into the bar at Plainmoor yesterday because if they thought that Ellis was MoM my c*cks a kipper. Not only that it is derogatory to the performances put in by the likes of Lathrope & Olejnik.
The man is a liability, he is just a mistake waiting to happen. We can't afford to have a player who is nailed on to make at least one howling error per game. We were lucky that we got away with his howler yesterday, and a few of his swipes at the ball (ala sheff Utd) that can go anywhere, but usually not very far. He can also count himself a very lucky boy not to have been sent off. It was his mistake/bad timing/poor judgment that created the situation in the first place.
It looks to some that he makes great tackles, but half the time this is a covering tackle that he has had to make because of his poor positional sense and lunging mistimed challenge in the first place. If you watch him for any length of time, you will see how poor his positional awareness is and how often he is caught out of position.
Yes he is good in the air, but surely that is a given for all centre backs?? Yes he does look like he gets stuck in, but for me he dives in too often. Spectacular when they are timed right but silly when not, as with yesterdays yellow card.
I'd rather have a centre half who can read the game properly and react/tackle accordingly, a bit like Saha. I'd also like a center half who doesn't consistently make mistakes, to the point where everyone is expecting it to happen.
I'm looking forward to getting Saha back fit. I know people will point to the results with Ellis in the team, but I would say that is in-spite of him not as a direct result of him playing
I just don't get the clamoring for him to play when he is rightly, imo, stuck on the bench when Saha is fit. I hope that when he is fit again Ellis goes back to bench warming duties.
Chants of his name when he is sat on the bench are laughable and any claims that he could be player of the season are ludicrous.
More than happy for some blunt replies, but nothing along the lines of Salman Rushdie please because I know there are some that do worship Ellis ;D
