It has been a busy week on here with TUFC completing the double over Plymouth and our former manager unsurprisingly getting the sack at Bristol sparking a lot of debate and seeing many "old" members posting again and just maybe Pete's post had the desired effect. Really encouraging to see more voting once again with nine members picking up at least one vote.
To prove that this forum is on the worldwide web and does not stop at the Kingskerswell Arches or indeed as far North as the Penn Inn, ;D the winning post actually had one expat fan initially attacking another expat fan and getting an apology in the process - the joys of a good debate, pity it doesn't happen more often. The second part of the post then goes on to make some very good points on the Buckle saga which just may now be drawing to a close.
So this week, I take my hat off to Floridagull, no shrinking violet and salute him on his strongly delivered views.
PeteF called for new views and opinions but when a post like this is labeled ‘Hogwash’ it’s no wonder that people lose interest in the forum. I actually think the poster has made good points, supported by logic.
The response to it, on the other hand, is just bluntly offensive without any attempt to justify the comment. Forums are supposed to be about debate and discussion; unsubstantiated rude dismissals just drive posters away. Responses should be similar to those that you would give to the poster in public. Calling a female’s post ‘Hogwash’ and ridiculing her ‘as PB’s mother’ would most likely lead to her partner giving you a fat lip, if said face-to-face. So why think it is acceptable on a forum?
It is indisputable that PB did us proud. The history books show what he achieved. If small-minded individuals want to try and belittle it, that’s fine, but it won’t alter the official record; 4 years that saw us go from Conference to one match away from L1.
And I don’t understand why the anti-PB army blames him for the L1 playoff defeat; it was the 11 players on the pitch that didn’t perform, against a very good side, it has to be said. Whether the manager was leaving that night or promising them unbridled riches, it should not have detracted from what pulling on a Torquay shirt should mean.
