Interesting to see we beat our record of most users online at one time. 29!! For a site still in it's infancy that is a great result. No doubt down to the lack of coverage on the Weymouth game!!

Louis has had many problems and I feel for him and hope It all works out for him In the end. I have always worked to make this forum Into a quality site, both forums need to be different to attract different types Of members.

Evolution would be a good way to describe it, i guess.
From the early beginnings of The group of four i think it was in 97(?), Mervo, adders. Pete Hicks etc etc (correct me if i'm wrong) which i read from the beginning once i joined in 2000. (I hope Louis has been able to salvage all the years of Dotnet that were in the archive as if not it will be a sad loss)
...to the creation of dot.com which people went for a while to be part of the in crowd. Believe me, as a man who saw things from the inside i saw some 'characters' and 'agenda'
...leading to Mervos not being the official site any more and the whole .com.net war. and the eventual mass exodus from .com to .net but that then also made al ot of agenda people come over to .net.. the infamous RNGull battle with myself!!!!!
..then the creation of this wonderful site. And the steady flow of people finding this place as a place of freedom of speech, good banter, honesty, friendship and good old fashioned lively debate.
...i do feel for Louis having lost all that and the momentum at present seemingly stalled over there. There is a part on the web for both sites. Brutally with Louis and then the way things went there would be no Fans Forum here... that is meant as a roundabout compliment. It must be mentioned that the site was recieving a good number of new members before the crash though.
Dave and everyone else involved i thank you for creating this place. I feel an excitement each morning and evening looking forward to reading the latest views
The likes of Romford Kev, Barlow (i know i can't believe it either), Chris Hayes, Merse, Ohtobe..., DGEP, and in fact i could mention everyone have made this site so wonderful to read it is a pleaseure and honour to be involved.
Many thanks.....

Thanks for your kind words Brett and as I have said before, I built this forum to be a place I would want to join and be a part Of. It has always been about treating everyone with respect and like adults, yes even Joe was able to respond to It.
The forum belongs to all the members, Its their place, I just do my bit to keep it all working. The members make the forum what It Is and the real thanks belong to each and everyone Of them, who has joined and put real effort Into making the best posts, you will ever read On any forum.
So do not thank me Brett, I'm the one who really Is so grateful to all the members, you have got me through a very bad year and the joy I get seeing what I started grow and flourish, Often brings me to tears.
Thanks everyone
Dave R

A well written and informative match report?? Interesting anecdotes from matches from years gone by?? Maybe a fantastic and humorous sketch?? Even a well balanced, well argued opinionated article??

Its been a few days in the thinking ( us oldies are apt to do that ) but I have thought about some of the things posted in the respect of the differing sites.
When Mervo took up the reigns that Ian had put down on leaving Warwick Uni from where he had posted all things Torquay for a while , we were blessed with an amazing site to post on. From its humble beginnings the forum was quick to gather gulls fans from every corner of the world, indeed the very first post was from Japan, it stayed the coursebecause it was just what a fans forum should be in that the daily musings were there for all to read and enjoy. Success was measured in how many other clubs copied the style and format that Merv had put together, and as we know even the official sites started one which was almost a copy.
With change came disent and it would seem that when the official one finally closed down Merv was invaded by the strange inhabitants that had gathered there to bring even his great site down to their level, Louis has had a difficult time in bringing this under control but now seems to have learnt from his early mistakes and settled the ship on a some what even keel.
I continue to read all sites Torquay and have enjoyed the way Dave has gathered together the quality posters under his careful guidence and shaped a well thought out site which continues to grow, every success to you Dave, long may it continue. I am always reminded of the saying "change is good" even if at my age I find that difficult to except sometimes but I will go with the bright new star on the block.
The one thing I still miss is the forum style, still to my mind the most interesting format .but have learned to live with a threaded format and will stick with my "gulls" family far from the shores of Torquay.

Greygull it may have taken a few days of thought, but your post was well worth you doing that. While I understand your views on the threaded board system, I will try and outline the real benefit this system brings. Before I do I hope the changes I made when you explained your problem with this system, have gone some way in making it easier, for you to navigate the forum. This system allows me to create categories and then have different boards in each category. So I have the football boards and then other topic boards and so on.If you look at each category as a sort of filing cabinet that has four drawers, to put all the same sort of thing in each drawer. You take the match day room, now I make sure all the match day threads are in order, from our first friendly and the latest one being our next game against York. So at the end of this season when there will be no football to talk about and you have some spare time, how could you use it? Well you could go and read the match day threads again, look to See who was starting the games in the early game, read the fans views and as the season had progressed, see how the views may have changed. Now using the old type of board all those match day posts would have long since been lost and you would have to go through a huge number of old pages to find posts on the early game. Not only that but they would be mixed up with all the other posts and you would only be able to read a few and then probably give up. With the last 100, you can see all the latest posts and can click a link on each post, that would take you too the thread the post was made on. Plus the new button that will appear on each thread, that should take you to the latest post on that thread. Its my view that this system helps to keep the history all together as each board will have its own types of content, that will be so much easier to find.

All very well Dave, and yes its a good system, but us oldies with slow brains have this tendacy to forget which "draw" we put things in. Like looking for socks in the morning. Keep it going though, sure I will learn it in the end, just what teacher said when we did multiplications.
