From the MAN in the middle column of the Sunday Janner Always thought it obstruction. I see from todays Tyneside derby that Mike Dean booked Mike Wiiliamson fdor shirt tugging in the box and Sunderland went 1 nil up. Good to see.

I have always been annoyed at this. If the defender stops a player getting to the ball by putting his body in the way, when not in actual control of a ball, then surely it is obstruction and therefore a foul. It needs to be implemented as it is ruining a part of the game.
Always was in my younger playing days.

Good article. There is clearly a different rule for the ball in the middle of the pitch and when it is going out. Shielding the ball is generally accepted and is part of the game now!
