southend away next week,i fear for us there,if we turn up half as bad as yesterday we are going to get seriously thumped by them,i fully understand the club needed to trim the wage bill for financial reasons, but this could be a cut too far, sort it out lingy

I noticed a possible solution to goal scoring problems and a partner for Howe. Lee Trundle is currently plying his trade at Neath and scoring too as is Phillips at Bath. Saah just isn't good enough but if Ellis isn't the answer let him prove it on the pitch if he is or not. Branston on loan would be ideal and speaking to him after the match , he'd love to return. Things have to change and quick. The officials were poor yesterday to be honest.

loyal, there is stil money in the wage budget for loanees after starting the season with 22 players under contract. Someone else has pointed out that last season there were something like 15 players under contract come 1st Feb and loanees making up the rest of the squad. Its not rocket science to see that finance that could have been used to get good quality loanees into positions we're lacking in (left sided centreback and a striker with a bit of pace or trickery) was somewhat wasted on squad fillers. Atieno wont have come cheap (being on a 12 month contract) and neither will Howe or Saah. We gazumped Hereford for Morris so he wont be on peanuts either. All this "much smaller player budget than last season" just seems to be hot air and misdirection.
Lee Trundle? He knows where the net is alright!

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_of_wales/8805793.stmReasons why he went to Neath, (although huge stack of cash not explicit) which included turning down Yeovil and Swindon at the time. As for Lee Phillips, what sort of League pedigree does he have? At the very least, Howe and Bodin are better options. McPhee scored a hatful in that division last season. I liked Phillips' energy, but I doubt his game has improved with age.

Mans and Danny were the only lights in a very lacklustre performance. I work overseas and look forward to my return to Brixham and with it my visits to Plainmoor but on this performance that enthusiasm is waning...!!!! Howe was ineffectual and out of his depth. Saah was no-where to be seen. Our defending was woeful. Board and management MUST address the problem of a leaky defence NOW otherwise we will be either joining (or probably replacing Argyle) at the foot of the league... After yesterdays performance should those of us who paid hard earned money to see a performance of that nature (particularly after we got it back to 2-2) we should have be reimbursed out entrance money....

I liked the way Phillips always put himself in the game chasing balls and being a handful. I agree that McPhee scored in BSP but so is Christie at Tamworth. Mohammed has stepped up from non league to league football and is playing well. What happened to these non league non stop scorers we were looking at last season ? We need goals and Howe needs an outlet .

Looks like the problems are running deeper than we think. i hope Mr Ling has not lost the dressing room already. he definitely needs to get a grip on some of these players. Macklin was tweeting from the subs bench yesterday - outrageous!! especially when he was slagging his team mates off.

Ling needs to get a grip on this situation and fast. If we are looking to players with the apparent attitude of young Lloyd to get us out of this mess then we are in trouble!!

My broadband hub packed up yesterday so have been unable to log on.... Basically, in summary the defensive errors are killing us at present. The first goal reminded me of the Crawley FA Cup effort with a poor header out headed straight back in the mix and Kuffour played on side. The second goal, Olejnik had a lot of problems setting the wall and seemed to be out of position when it was taken and it was very easy to then score. We certainly were more of a threat in that half with their keeper making a couple of good saves and did anyone think the linesman flag went up late for the disallowed goal. Also, why did Howe get a yellow after being fouled? We did really well to get back into things in the second half. Nice to see us score off a set piece, off the inside of the post and then a few minutes later, a good nod on from Howe set Danny running clear, a good chest down and then just when his shot looked to be going wide it hit the inside of the other post. Game on. However, defensive frailties were again exposed and giving away a penalty swung the complexion of the match. The fourth goal came from Nicholson cross that was cut out by their defender on the edge of the area and once again, pushing forward while behind, we were exposed at the back and like at Morecambe, were caught on the counter attack. Effectively game over, but the final goal did look like a class lob from the family stand. So, as Jon posted earlier, we went back to 4-4-2 and even with too many people off their game today, created a lot more. However, we lost because of the defence and until that is sorted out, we will struggle.......

Can't see how our goal was disallowed, atenio even looked over at the linesman as he ran off to celebrate. It was if he was told to put flag up by the Gills players !!! Howe was fouled but went for the ball as the useless ref blew up, Lawrence dived ( as a few of their players did all afternoon ) rolled around a bit and was fine as he walked to the line. All in all poor officials ruined us today as if goal had stood and officials did their job properly , the result could have been different.

Just watched bbc iplayer and even though commentary blames O'Kane for the penalty, it was actually Nicholson. It didn't look a penalty to me, just a tangle of legs
their last goal was a hit and hope as he wasn't even facing the goal when he decided to hit it.

So Macklin is using his mobile phone on the subs bench. That just about sums him up really. He has shown absolutely sod all since he's been here and the sooner his contract is up the better.
