Since Stanley got back into the league, we have yet to bring a point back from their ground losing 1-0, 4-2 and 2-0 but records are there to be broken and after beating Barnet at Plainmoor for the first time in eleven years and Plymouth in the league for almost 40 years maybe it is time to get another monkey off our backs!
As always it will be a tough task and Accrington after a poor start are on a run of their own and since losing away to Shrewsbury six league games ago, have won three and drawn two including a good draw against Crawley, a home win against Bristol Rovers and their first away win of the campaign (or indeed since February) at Wimbledon on Saturday! They have uncharacteristically already lost four games on their own (mud) patch but Cheltenham, Swindon, Southend and Crewe suggests that a good team playing well is the only way to do it.
Stanley haven't got an out and out striker scoring goals all over the park a la Izale McLeod and may be the reason they have brought in and recently started two loan strikers. 23 year old Padraig Amond on loan from FC Pacos de Ferreira may well be their danger-man, top scoring with 5 goals, three of them coming from the last two outings. 18 year old Jayden Stockley on loan from Bournemouth has just extended his loan period for a second month and may be his partner in attack.
We travel for our last game before Christmas without Mansell serving an one game suspension for five yellow cards following hard on the heels of his fellow mid-fielders, Lathrope and O'Kane illustrating what a tough job it is in the engine room. Luckily, we have Morris to slot in again but he himself needs to be careful as he is on four cards himself and with Bodin not eligible to play against his parent club, Swindon in the following match and Macklin out on loan, his suspension would maybe see either McPhee or Atieno on the wing, definitely, not their first choice position.
This is the last time the team travel outside of Devon until 14 January but as always, I welcome the views of anyone making this particular journey!
