Was it an injury for Lathrope or a tactical change? I assume it was the former as it was quite early. Hope it's not too serious Injury. |

Also great news that Crawley lost - they're down to 5th, which must be their worst position since the opening week or two
When was the last time we were top outright in this division? Don't remember us topping during the year we got promoted, or 97-98
EDIT: Forgot we were of course top at the start of last season. Meant more at a representative time in the season

Well I`m simply stunned by this amazing run. although cheltenham are wobbling, to go there and get a 7th straight win is incredible. looking at the table we are so far ahead of 8th, we are now in the dreaded territory of, it has to be top 3. For I fear if we slip back it will be defeat in the play offs. i have felt for weeks that 1-2 of the top 3 would slip back. Crawley have obliged and may find playing catch up too much. Cheltenham are on the wobble. plenty of big games to come in Feb what a season milber |

Incredible another 1-0 clean sheet victory.
What a spirit we have at the club to achieve what these players are achieving with a wafer thin squad.
I'm in awe.

I'm so pleased that Saah has slotted in so well and the loss of Robbo has not disrupted things. The whole squad deserve such credit....just got to keep it going!!

Play off final heartache.... Manager and asst leaves..... Key players, spine of the team leave.... New manager appointed very late in the summer......budget cut significantly. Predictably we struggle to 18th with over a quarter of the season gone, just 3 points above the drop zone. Then something quite feckin' remarkable happens.....  Joint top......after picking up 41 points out of a possible 48......with a wafer thin squad and nothing much on the bench! Week after week we're holding (pretty comfortably) on to 1 nil wins. It's just incredible..... Massive congratulations to Lingy, Taylor and their backroom team, tactically they seem to get it right week after week no matter who we play. The players have done us proud......especially the new "spine" Ellis, Manse, Nicho and a pretty superb keeper  |

Top, top result and unlikely to finish outside the top seven now unless something drastic happens. After spending the first half of the season rarely scoring from a corner, this seems to be our main goal outlet in 2012. That's four clean sheets in a row now -any of the history boys know what our record for that is?  ;D |

Just what was said after we lost at Southend? This is good times for Torquay, taking neally 500 fans to Cheltenham on a Tuesday night in Feb is superb. With Southend playing in form Crewe and Chelts away to Dagenham, we could end up top come Saturday teatime.

I think it was the realisation (finally!!) after Southend, that the defence couldnt cope without more assistance from midfield. The following game, Damo was brought in to shield the defence as a holding midfielder and the record since speaks for itself. CMcP looks a mess Looks more like he went 6 rounds with both the Klitschko brothers at the same time |

what a match that was,another 1-0 win,a good habit to have.But for those that didnt go this wasnt a fluke result,it was richly deserved.We battered them first half,and i honestly thought one goal wouldnt be enough going into the second,but we are pure hard work rate and teamwork,we have a they shall not pass mentality.
Everyone played there part,but i thought saah was top notch tonight,he looked very comfortable in defence for us.
The lads are so together,we never looked in danger of conceding.Cheltenham were not very good and were doing dirty tricks all night,shirt pulling,grabbing,studding,eye gauging,ott tackling they were disgraceful,aided by a shocking referee,who booked our boys at any opportunity but just had a word with theirs,he gave us sod all we earned what we got.
The final whistle after 6 minutes injury said everything,our fans the team and lingy celebrated,but cheltenham looked absolutely sore losers,their thuggery on the pitch is not needed and unless there attitude changes i hope they stay where they are.
As for us,anything is possible now,its like a dream,but long may it continue

It seems to me that the change probably came from 1) a realisation that they needed to get their arses into gear at the back and 2) the paintballing trip James, he hadnt played quite a few games in that position. Having seen most of the games up till then (luckily I gave Southend a miss!!) we had stuck pretty rigidly to a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 and when he had played, it was as a "traditional" midfielder in a bank of 4. It was only after the Southend match that the experiment of using him as a "holding midfielder" was tried and, lo and behold, it removed much of the pressure from the defence and we started to look so much more solid at the back. Sure, it does mean that we're not as much of an attacking threat with only 1 up front (the last 9 wins being by one goal?), but it's effective at grinding results out. We may only have scored at an average of 1.5 a game since Southend, but, when we're only giving a miserly less than half a goal per game away it equates to points in the bag. |
